I've been intriguied by the finless boards from the pictures of Sacred Craft and what Rock and MoB are doing, so I drug out a board from a year or so ago. It was a double barrel concave and we just left the fins out. Seriously slippery, and fun! :-) Note in the one picture James is riding it tail first :-)

Does adding fins to a board slow it down do you think?
Old    surfdad            10-18-2009, 7:16 AM Reply
I don't think that's true. I believe that adding fins in the 3 to 5 inch range will increase drag, but they allow the board to be pushed harder thereby increasing drive/speed. Perhaps in a controlled environment, where the two boards (with fins and without) where strictly trimming and there wasn't a control issue (the finless gets out of control quickly :-) ), the finless board would have a higher "terminal velocity". :-) For practical purposes where we're riding/turning/pumping the finned board generates more speed because of control.

I have no idea how that thing surfs, looks crazy to me! :-)

Petr, like this? :-) This is a Prior powstick, but the same concept. We don't get tons of powder here in California, but for those few days, we do this is so much fun!

Jon - Its glassed and only need glosscoat and sanding, but since we here jumped from late summer to nearly freezing wetaher I slowed down. Not sure if I can test it this year or wait till spring :/

Petr, I hear you on the cold weather. Sure makes it hard to finish up the boards! I have the same problem going!! If only Jeff could send some of that warm weather to the midwest!! Will be looking forward to seeing the finished product come closer to spring time!

I'd swap some of this warm weather for rain! Our home lake is going to be hurting if it doesn't pour this winter. I'm looking forward to Petr's finished product too.
