San V. is open for the summer season 2008 Thursdays - Sundays beginning May 3.

It will close this fall for 4-5 years. If you're like many of us San Diego County boaters, you're hoping for alternatives in addition to El Cap (limited to only 40 boaters). While the San Diego County Water Authority is the entity who owns the water and is doing the San V. dam work, the City of San Diego owns and runs the lakes and is in charge of the receational activites on them. There is a draft Environmental Impact report regarding the damn construction coming out in early July that should address the loss of water contact activites amoung other issues. This will present an opportunity to attend meetings or address opening up of other San Diego County run reservoirs for water contact (Hodges, Lower Otay, etc.) Please stay tuned and help out with this if you can.

In addition, you may have heard something about opening a slalom course on Lake Murray. The Southern California Watersports Association, mainly slalom skiers, is attending a noon-time meeting on May 16 in the San Diego City Council chambers that will air public support/opposition to this idea. While this isn't for wakeboarding, it's related in that we're trying to get more public water contact use of City reservoirs. John Obsel of Southern California Watersports Association can be reached at 619-838-7819 or socalwsa@cox.net.

The only way we'll make some headway in opening up access is with bodies at meetings and voices being heard.
