(NEED HELP) BATTERY ISOLATOR

My boat only had one battery when I bought it. I added a second one. I do not have a perko but I have an extra isolator. I wan't to add the isolator only to charge the second batt. Can it be done like that???

Yes, it can. What kind of isolator is it? Grant likes using big relays for isolation, that works too.

It is a Sure Power with 3 terminals. term-a and 1-2. How do I wire this up? I thought it would be term-a to the alternator and term 1 or 2 to the second battery. I did not want to change stock charging system.

Humm I wooda gessed there would have been a bunch of people jumping in here to help you out so thats why. I sorta stoped looking and posting in these threads because there has been so many of them that you can search for a post on.

A Isolator works like this. It has 1 imput (from your alternator's charging wire and several output's (that go to your battery's) The Isolator
will direct a charge to what ever battery is low.
So If you have 2 bats that are seprated from each other (not linked). Example 1 for your stereo and 1 for your starting battery. lets say you park your boat and and drink tequilla and party with strippers on your boat all day while blasting your stock stereo. Your stereo battery is gonna be hurting by the time your finished. You start your boat back up the isolater will direct the charge to the flat battery. And yes you are correct Im guessing A would be your Alternator in-put and 1 & 2 would be for your battery's

Grant should I hook up both batteries to the isolator or one on the alt and the other to the isolator???

Nope,
Just like Grant said, put the alternator input to the A terminal, and the two battery positives to terminals 1&2. Use big wire. Run the negative wires to the same ground point on the block. Better yet, get someone who understands high current DC boat wiring to help or do it for you. You don't want to set your boat on fire. I'm not being a smartass, the consequences are huge and potentially life threatening if you don't know what you are doing. Spend 200$ to get it done properly.
