Jakober, your photos are always impressive...! Here is one I took at the Pdxwake.com event back in July. Portland is a pretty amazing place, amazing how industrial the waterfront feels compared to the Seattle area.

Fish-eye for the longboard. It was an excellent sunset so basically ran down the hill along side him and shot. The fish is the only way to go for those kinds of shots as I was basically just holding it over my head and shooting as I was running.

I am a huge fan of the fish. Hopefully someday Nikon will make a full frame version that is as crisp as the 10.5mm. Some of my favorite shots ever have been made via the fish. Everyone should have one.

Jacober...are you using a sound or light based shutter release on the breakage shots or are you just doing the ol take a bunch and selecting the one that came out?
Old     (jjakober)      Join Date: Apr 2002       10-22-2009, 2:56 PM Reply
Bakes:

For this one I used a light trigger and for the one I posted a while ago I used a switch attached to the trigger of the bb gun. I just finished up my sound trigger and will be trying it out soon. I still have to take a bunch and select the best one, but that's the nature of the beast.

Yep, 7D with 400 f5.6 L right off the rocks below the street. The tide started going out and there were some solid 2nd peak sets coming through with an occasionally nice barrel on the left. By the time people started sitting outside and riding them I had to leave.

The cam is taking pretty good shots since I reset it but I'm still struggling to get good conversions with DPP. Hopefully Apple will update Aperture soon.

I spent over 4 hours trying to break light bulbs, I can't believe how fricken strong they are. The hammer in this shot is attached to a swinging arm that I pulled back and it would swing down and hit the bulb, the crazy thing is just how far I had to pull it back to get it to break the bulb. Lots of times it would just bounce off the stupid thing!!!

75 cents a 4 pack, and these things were like bricks!!

Brad,
Thanks! I use the 28-135 kit lens on my 30D. I was really close... 10-12 ft. The sun was peeking through the trees, which hit his body perfectly. It's one of those 'lucky' shots. I wish I had pics of the other deer that were there the day before... They made him look scrawny!

Thanks Randy. I think I could of done a better job but it was a work night so I was in a bit of a rush.

As far as light goes it was just about a full moon and there are big lights all over the place there. I did a little light painting under the car on the first shot and I know I was on BULB. I'll have to go back and look the EXIF for the rest of the info.

#1 45' f/8 ISO 200

#2 8' f/5.6 ISO 200

#3 20' f/9 ISO 200

I'm back to breaking stuff!!!

These three bulbs were shot from the right side with a pellet gun. You can see the entry and exit holes in the first bulb on the right then the middle one really popped,
and then the exit hole on the final bulb on the left. Light bulbs are very unpredictable, I have no idea why the middle one shattered so much but the other two stayed relatively intact?
This happens so quickly that the first and last bulbs haven't even burned out yet.
