The Department of Boating and Waterways is in danger of being merged with the Parks and Recreation department because of budget restraints. Currently (as I understand it) the DBW is funded through an extra tax placed on gas sold on the water. The Assembly wants to divert these funds away from boating and waterway programs, such as keeping our waterways clean of garbage and invasive species of life. If you boat in the delta, you already know about the water hyacinth problems,

Recreational Boaters of California (RBOC) is managing a letter writing campaign, and needs California boaters to help out. Please go to http://www.rboc.org/ to print and sign the letter. You can fax it in or mail it, but they need the letters by March 28th. The Assembly votes on this on April 2.
