Anybody out there ever modify their skiing plylon so it retracts below the deck surface? Doesn't look that difficult if you can weld aluminum and have access to a machine shop. Would appreciate any tips or advice before I dive into it. We don't use it very often and it would be nice to have that flat surface free of obstructions. Thanx for all info.

remove it all together and use the tow hook on the transom instead. i had a customer do it on an x-2 (same boat) and they just put another cup holder in the void left by removing the pylon.

Putting a cup holder in it would be tacky. I currently have an 2006 x-1 and the only thing I have thought of is shortening the pylon a little. Having a removable pylon would be best, but I don't think it will be an easy job. Post pics if you try it.

This might be tacky too, I took a black sock and stuffed it full of socks then stuffed it in the hole. Works fine.

I think it would be a good idea if manufactures started making them detattchable, maybe in a way where you can un-screw it just below the level of the cushion. Just an idea.

i have an 02 X-star also, and thought about machining an aluminum plug to replace the pylon, so it would be flush with the seat cushion, or just below. would anyone else be interested in these?

thank you bjermi! in fact if i was sitting in the middle of the back seat i would be damn thankful to have a cupholder of my own.

Some builders already have collapsable pylons.

Newer Supras have a retractable pylon. You just lift it up and turn it 1/4 of a turn and it drops down.

You know Noel you should have bought that Malibu when you had the chance. It would have come with the retractable ski pylon, problem solved. Then you could hang out with Bobby and me at Melones.
J/K. When are we gonna make the modification?

kikitlo- first of all, it's Bobby an I. Second, I'm not towing my boat back to the dealer this weekend like you are. Go MC, problem solved.

Well we finally got around to the modification. I think Noel did a great job. I helped bore out the plate and Noel did the rest. Turned out good man. Too Bad your selling it now.
