I have not mentioned anything about this since BroStock time earlier this year...

I forgot to post this last night, but apparently they have decided YET AGAIN, that they are going to deepen the Castle Rock Cut between Lake Powell's wahweap and warmcreek bay. Heard it on the raidio that the decision has passed by all the necessary people and they will be cutting it down as the lake lowers

hopefully this is more than just talk like the past couple of times. I am thinking that there were enough ecstatic customers that were sooo HAPPY about the cut being open that it made an impact on everyone out at the Lake to KEEP people happy.

I did a quick google search to see if there was anything on it NEW, but all that came up was all the hype about it earlier this year and prior, which did not happen

If this is so, Bro Stock will yet again be a pleasant quick trip no matter what amounts of precipitation this winter stocks up... granted that future economy or other scenarios don't put a dent in it

Aramark has alot of pull in page and no. Coconino county. I bet they were geting worried about Antelope point having a strangle hold due to location. Jeremy were at the resort do you work?

Actually I no longer work at the resort. The season is pretty much dead and most everyone who actually stayed got layed off.

I started off working as an "Activities Worker" and helped with activities on the beach behind the Lodge and even did wakeboard instructions whenever we could actually get them organized ;). That job ended after Labor Day and the put me on as a Bellman after that until that ended at the end of October. But at least i had a REALLY NICE WAGE for about a month ;)

I have also worked in the past at the Wahweap Fuel dock, Boat Rentals as a porter and instructor, and Boat Tour Desk. Whooo Weee. All my Lake jobs are my favorite Jobs

I am now working at Classic Aviation at the Airport

LONG TERM GOAL is to get a job position at Aman-Giri (Aman resorts), a fancy, luxury, 5 star, retreat resort being built just off the 89 between greenhaven and bigwater. I am hoping my Chinese speaking skills and experience with the lake will get me on out there.

maybe that is more than what you wanted to know, but there it is.

But i DO like your opinion/theory about Aramark wanting to make sure customers go to them. never thought of that one ;) If the trench digging is not their doing, then i am sure they are loving it none the less, who wouldn't really.

Is that the spot that is supposed to have the golf course? Hows that coming along? Still calling that "Adventure cove"? With the old house boat? I was a Lead Cook there in 06', trying to find a way to pay my mortgage here (Denver), and live in page next summer.

Ya, It is still called "Adventure Cove." were you there the year that employee from russia or some place bounced himself off the water trampoline and drowned because he was not wearing a life jaket and did not know how to swim? (just repeatin' stories i heard here). Anyway, i guess ever since that incident Adventure cove has not been the same (took away the tramp for one). I really had high hopes for it, but saw a lot of un-fulfilled potential because of past and ever-present liabilities and just shear lateness in organization. most employees even, did not even know we existed this year. But we made the most of it that Aramark and ParkService would allow. ;)

Apparently they are thinking of moving the "adventure Cove" operation over to boat rentals and i also heard of some thoughts of putting in a winch to compete with Antelope. I went to boat rentals and kinda "lobbied" for them to put in a sesitec 2.0 system. I got the attention of some higher-ups but they in turn were not able to convince THE Higher-Ups of a winch or sesitec 2.0... SUCKS!!!

Aramark still has no competition for lakeside resort stays and big tours, but i bet Antelope can easily pull that rug out from underneath them in the following years.

maybe i am being un-professional in my seemingly "bash" on Aramark (especially as a former employee), but at the same time i have a lot of Love for the company. They have been there for years and are quite a tradition and legend. I just expect more from them, especially when there is competition now.

ANYWAY, about Aman-Giri,

I have found it very difficult to find out stuff about them. They seem almost secretive and what stuff i do hear around town is extremely "Gossipy."

Golf is one of these things i am unsure of. I have read and heard that there will be no golfing AT the resort and that a golf course would disturb the natural scenery or something like that. BUT there is a guy i work with currently who is looking for a potential golf related job there. It seems he has had contact with some people currently involved with Amangiri (i too have, a little) soo... i don't know what to tell ya.

A lot of stuff on the net is based on OLD projections of the resort being finished by late 2007 even. But they are not expected to finish till late spring or early summer of 2009.

Here are some (recent) sites
http://www.luxist.com/2008/06/07/first-amangiri-villas-hit-the-market/
http://www.villasatamangiri.com/home.aspx (this site talks about golf in the activities and shows ONE picture from a golf course and it looks to be the one in Page, but they don't have one built yet to take a pic of anyway, if they are building one)
http://www.okland-const.com/projectDetails.cfm?id=183&cid=1 (this is the construction companies stuff on the resort)
http://amanresorts.com/home.aspx?id=3202 (ironically i still see nothing about amangiri on the amanresorts site)

Hope to Move here ehh?
What do you plan to do here if you come?
It'd be nice to have another person to represent wakeboarding in this deprived wakeboarding oasis! ;)

Yeah, that was real sad. Kid bounced off, when my friend who was on duty at the time realized it he had not re surfaced. Friend dove in a bunch of times, never found him. Parks service found him almost twenty mins later like twenty feet deep. flew him to st. George. Kids Brother, who he was traveling with, was there. Family flew in from Slovania, spent a week in the hospital till they pulled the plug. That was a terrible week. Kid was nice.
Hard to change anything when that resort, and lake in general have been loosing money for ten plus years. If the attendance comes back to pre 2000, adventure cove could change easily. I have a business plan all drafted up. I am a chef by training, and that is what I mainly wanted to change, but its a secret.
That trampoline was going to be ditched before the accident. Where it was anchored, it used to get dragged and snagged by douche bags from the loading ramp.
Miss it so much. Have you been to the suchi spot? Those are my buddies (if it is still open).
Antelope point WILL kill aramark in time. Phase six in there plank is a casino. When I was there they had not finished the restaurant, but had gas and rentals. That year Hyatt came to look at the hotel potential.
Aramark only has the contract still by default... After the Ice Berg Canyon incdent in the early nineties, Parks service stated that they would not renew Aramarks then twenty year contract. When other companies came to inspect the properties, they all bailed. Aramark has no contract, just yearly. The Hotels at both Wahweap and Bullfrog are in need of some love, and Parks Service new contract will have the new conssesionaire do the work aht their cost....
Parks service wants all employee housing updated. That means all those fire trap trailers, and all the dorms that have not burned need to be gone. In Wahweap this means either new "low visibility" housing, or housing in Page. If housing was not payed by the company(at least in part) means no workers. In bullfrog they all ready have some new housing. Apartment style. NPS wants the housing to not be seen from lake level.

The Blue Buddha Sushi is my and my wife's favorite resturaunt in town now! We don't go to often but love it none theless. I sorta know (of) the guys there and know they are into wakeboarding, especially "Twist", but i just have not really hit it off with them yet i guess, not more than a conversation here and there anyway.

Early this year one of the employee dorms burnt down. guess you heard about that?

I guess i don't know about the Iceberg Canyon thing. Tried to google it but kept coming up with the more recent kite tube junk. I'd say you know your stuff, more than me, but then i have never really been past rainbow bridge (sad i know) so i bet there is a LOAD of peeps who know more than me about my back yard and what goes on in it ;)

in the early ninties bullfrog was dumping old batteries, fridges, and other industrial stuff in iceberg canyon, they got caught. Aramark is not a good company in any other way then they are successfull.
