Anyone know of a co. that makes an all plexiglass or fiberglass 12" sub box. I'm just worried if I take on a little water with slightly damp carpets if a traditional type sub enclosure would start to deteriorate with time.

You will need an enclosure set up for the marine environment, but that just means having it sealed. As for the plexi, I believe BOSS Towers builds one and I am sure the guys at Sound Illusions can build you anything you want. They will post up here shortly.

Robert, you can also use resin on a wood box to make water proof. Sealing the box that adds to the sound too. I've been sealing the inside of sub boxes for many years, for the boat you seal the outside too. Then carpet it for a finished look.

If you want it smooth and don't like carpeted boxes, then its just a lot more work. You'll need to do a lot of finish work.

Robert,
Many of us have started just taking the finished box to a Line-X shop and they will put the coating on it for you. It's totally water proof. I've done this several times even for amp boards.
IMO carpeted boxes are not good for in a boat. They never dry out on the bottom if wet.
Good luck.

Here is a website that would allow you to build a box to your specifications.

I agree. I built 2 12" sub boxes this year. After finishing them I coated them with a do-it-yourself line-a-bed. Worked great. A gallon of the line-a-bed is more than enough for 2 boxes. So in the future I would have everything ready at one time. Boxes and amp board or whatever.

And as Sean said, you need to finish the boxes really well. The Line-a-bed coating will not hide anything.

Contact Clayton Bydgnes at SoundIllusionsAudio.com. very nice guy.

Also, if you make it yourself go to tap plastics-they have this plexi welding glue that ive used to make plexiglass fishtanks before. Very easy to use, very cheap.

We offer boxes both ways, all custom boxes are resined inside and out. All our prefab boxes are "reflex" coated and some customs upon cust. request. Never had a problem with either.

This is the easiest waterproof 12" subwoofer solution that I have ever seen. I currently have 3 of them, one in the boat, one in my car, and one spare. Even though it's just a cheap piece of plastic they work quite well, in my opinion. I have done two of my buddies boats with them too, with no complaints.

I just put them behind a false front covered in carpet to match the boat.
