boat showers

has anyone ever added a shower in there boat? im am lookin to do one and there not a lot talked about? is it worth it? where did you get your at?

I have been thinking of doing this too. I am up for a DIY idea but I have one of my own right now, but would like some ideas to do it too.

showers are nice if like to you enjoy early season rides in a cold climate.. does arizona get cold? anyhow, they aren't used that often but nice to warm up that thin layer between suit and skin before entering cold water.. also, nice to have around after exiting cold water to warm up the digits and diggers.. it is also just one more bump option you can get with nada when you decide to sell or trade your ride.. here is a link to skidim:

^ this is the same shower I have on my new malibu and I am in love with it I fill up the closetoe boots before I ride along with my wetsuit then when getting out I could sit on the back of the boat all day in the warm water on me it was well worth it for me. I also like the stream setting it makes a pretty good squirt gun! haha

I just bought a Heatercraft 101 model for my 205V for $199 from boatersoutlet.com. Everything I've seen is that a DIY is around $150, so I thought it was nice to have the real thing. Installation hasn't been fun, because I've been pretty careful cutting fiberglass through the transom! For the Minnesota climate, I'm really hoping I get a ton of use from it and can extend the season.

Question: Is there a hot/cold shower system that is compatible with a ZR6 operated with fresh water closed cooling system? If not, is it possible to install via water cooled exhaust port (if there is such a thing). If not, anybody have solutions?

I'm a Nautique dealer and NO ZR6 was ever compatible with a shower. On the invoices it said "ZR6- No shower option available" or something along those lines. You still may be able to design one yourself though...

So how do they do it in offshore boats or what about Wakecraft? The shower just needs a heat exchanger that will be installed in the closed loop cooling system. But it’s not cheap runs $514.00. Part# 98605, MFR# 120-s-c

This is the heat exchanger. Keeps shower water and coolant separate.

can i ask a dumb question? why do you have to cut into the transom? i thought all the shower stuff was in the motor box and one of the rear lockers???

Bruce, on the 205V hull there is a cutout in the transom for a factory option shower. That way you can control it from the swim platform without opening the rear hatch. It's a pretty cool design.

This closed loop cooling heat exchanger system seems viable. Yes, the price is high but if it's the only option, then I'll shell out (live in Northwest; wife and kids want hot shower). With a system like that, wonder why the dealers I have talked to tell me not to modify? Heater is OK, but not shower. Isn't the heater somehow coupled to closed-loop too?

Yep ours has shower and its a ZR6 and I'm pretty sure the shower is Heater Craft.

I have the Aqautic shower listed in the posts near the top. But can't seem to adjust the temp very well...eathir to cold or scalding hot? I have adjusted the gauges. Does the boat need to be running to draw lake water??

Though there are many reasons why a closed cooled shower system is discouraged (like one above, so I have learned), the likely one stems from a product liability case associated with carbon monoxide poisoning. In this case a person experienced cmp while using said product above. The product worked perfectly, however. IMO, it was DA's lack of judgment that lead to cmp because he used it while sitting next to exhaust pipe. Next step: lawsuit. Brilliant. Blame product designers and manufacturers. OTOH,IMO, this seems like a perfect solution. I plan to have one of these installed soon.

I have only used mine once. I use a drysuit so i really don't need it. The time I did use it, the lake water was really cold and I turned it on my feet when I got out and that was a mistake. I never thought of the stream setting to be used as a squirt gun, maybe I will use it more this year on the girls.

for the DIY'ers, rumor is you don't need a pump. engine water pump is enough to put out hot water @ 1000 rpms. I live in texas, so this is really all I would ever need. We take about 10 rides a year that are colder than I would like and we're already back to trunks. so, for <$50 in fittings and hose, it makes sense.

You have to have a pump for the cold water to mix with the hot water from the engine.

The engine has to be running to keep the water hot.

Centurion will not install at the factory because of the above mentioned liability. I understand that CA boats must have a sticker on the back of the boat instructing users that it is unsafe to be on the platform with the engine running.

Gregory thats why in CA the shower needs to be up front or away from exhaust. Ours is under the front center bow cushion.
