After 3 months I am finally down with the new stereo. Just in time for Havasu as we leave in 4 days. I started with a new sony head unit with 3 sets of 4v preouts and a usb port. I added 8 new polk 6.5 cabin speakers, 4 are in the factory spots and 4 are mounted in the walkway. I am powering these with 2 kicker zx650.4 amps so each is getting 125w rms. I added 2- Rockford Fosgate 12" p3subs powered by a hifonics bxi1608 amp with each sub getting 600w rms. The 3rd sub is a Kicker 12" L7 solobaric powered by a kicker Zx1000.1 monoblock. For the tower there is a wetsounds pro485 powered by a bridged wetsounds syn2. A pair of Pro80s are up there as well powered by a bridged wetsounds syn4. 485 is seeing 700 watts rms and each pro80 is seeing 400 watts. Tim at wetsounds says this is the ultimate setup and after hearing it I will agree. 100' behind the boat I was unable to even talk on a cell phone, loud is and understatement. Special thanks to Tim and John at Wetsounds for all your help, there customer service is top notch!!

Don't the walk way speakers interfere with each other as far as sound goes?

They actually sound very good. They fill in the void between the bow and rear speakers and make it much fuller sounding when underway.

I currently have the stock 70 amp alternator. I would like to upgrade it but I havent found anything yet as a marine highoutput on a vbelt is pretty uncommon. I have 1 starting battery and a second bank of 6 deep cycle batteries for the stereo. I As far as cost I have about $7000 in equipment and wiring. I did all the work myself but I would assume a stereo shop would not charge more than $1000-1500 to install everything. Next year I plan to replace all the polk 6.5s and the 2 kicker amps on them with the ws650s and 2 more syn4s. the polks sound great and handle some good power but they are still as good as the wetsounds.

For amps I would stay with something that has regulated power and is fan cooled,. Also in a boat you need as much power as you can afford. Wetsounds, zappco, hertz and jl are all good. Kicker is ok as well but you need to install a fan on the rack to keep them cool as they will get hot! I would recoomend getting a none marine sub as you can generally get a higher end one for the same cost.
