A Sanger V230 cuts through chop great (for a wakeboard boat). I don't know about the other Sangers.

I would clarify what you mean a little bit. Your profile states Lake Elsinore as your home lake - what are the rough water conditions there? For example at Lake Mead it can go from nearly glass to 5-6 foot swells in the space of 30 minutes, so rough water handling is a matter of serious safety. My home lake is very crowded on weekends and rough water is usually just a lot of boat traffic and rough water is a matter of comfort only.

I will go ahead and open the can o' worms by stating that I believe that the Tige 24V is the best inboard boat in rough water. The hull is thicker, the boat is more solid, the design of the hull and TAPS is designed to produce a terrific wakeboarding wake, and also smaller wakes for skiing. It is the most versatile.

Sry for not being as specific, the main place we deal with chop is at the colorado river, the parker strip can be a rough ride, as well as havasu. Just to explain more, im not only talking about an inboard, im looking for the best rough water ride. Thanks

my x-star handles the chop pretty good..i think the pickel fork breaks it up a little bit.

I will open another can, and say the Sanger V215/230 has the best rough water handling, I've been in a lot of boats.

Deep V is what gives a great rough water ride

Sanger, Tige, and Centurion all have deep V's all the way to the back of the boat

I really enjoyed my Yamaha AR230 high output in rough water. It's not the best wakeboard boat as it is a jet boat, but it did soo well in the rough. Now I'm on a Mastercraft and love that for an all around boat. I'm also super impressed with Tige over the other options.

Rough water wakeboard boat: IMO Sanger. My Calabria does well but Sanger is in a class of its own in rough water for a wakeboard boat.

did somebody already say Sanger V215?

end of discussion

no really take one out in rough water and it'll speak for itself.

I'll camp with the Tige as well. Just check Havi, and see the amount of Tiges' on the water there for further evidence. Tell your pops, he can catch a ride with me on Elsi, and he can judge for himself.
Good luck with the search.

Well, our Boston Whaler (21') cuts through chop like a champ. BWs have got to be one of the best boats at doing that. Not to mention, they float if you cut them into pieces with a chain saw. BUT it is no wakeboard boat!!! (for many reasons)

Sacrifice a little of the smoother ride on those rough days, and go with a Sanger V215 or V230!

We own both, and if I had to pick one over the other...the Sanger would win, hands down. Each boat has its purpose, and if you plan on wakeboarding, you will want a wakeboard boat...I said the Sanger V230 (or V215) cuts through chop great! for a wakeboard boat, and many others are agreeing.

So take a look and demo.

Yeah, all Sangers kill the rough water for sure. They are a great do everything boat. The only downer is how low they sit. If you get stuck in rough water at slow speeds you could be in trouble

MC 45, or Bu 247.

CIE has a good point, that is the only thing i don't like about sangers...they do sit pretty low at slow speeds. You just have to be careful and know how to drive a boat when big rollers come along.

aren't most wakeboard boats like that though????

MB's new Tomcat is smooth as silk in the chop

Do the new V215's and V230's sit low? I thought that was mostly an issue with the 210.
Old     (ghostrider_2)      Join Date: Aug 2004       09-20-2006, 10:34 AM Reply
I don't think they sit that low unless sacked out like any other boat.

lower than some and high than some..

I am just putting it out there for entertainment purposes only. I do not have any opinion as to look, ride, ect. All I know is they designed this prototype for the ocean.

New 24 foot SUpra (2007) test drive it and you will see what I am talking about... The new 22 SSV Supra does well too, make sure it is a 2007, Supra did something to make them much better in rough water.

Is that the x80 hull, or the 45?
Old     (mrm2083)      Join Date: Nov 2005       09-20-2006, 12:03 PM Reply
I dont think its either hull. When I saw the original at the miami boat show I was told that it was on, i think, an xstar hull, but that the boat was going to be getting its own hull that would have a deeper V. Judging by the pictures that V looks pretty deep so i think that might be the new hull

I actually didnt read this whole post, but to whoever said the XSTAR was a great rough water boat, are you NUTS????

The xstar is horrible in chop, has anyone ever honestly looked/rode in an old Boston Whaler Tri Hull and compared it to the xstar hull?

Honestly, the deep V of centurions is likely one of the best rough water rides for an inboard.

YEEAAAHHHH!! CENTURIONS Thanks MIKE

We go to the Parker Strip all the time. That is what we call our home lake.. :-) We have an 06 Centurion Avalanche C4 and we love it. We were just there this past weekend and it was windy all weekend, which sucks for boarding but as far as the boat ride, could not even tell that it was windy outside. The boat cuts thru the chop very nicely. It is also a great priced boat for what you get... I am sure many boats do the same thing in the chop but I am just very happy with our as far as cost and how it handles. We used to have an 86 Centurion ski boat and would never take it out in the chop. You needed a kidney belt... Good luck on finding a boat..

Sanger by far out weighs any other brand on the market for solid ride in rough water. And not to mention handeling. Supra, not quite and I say this having a 07 22ssv comming in a month. Centurions probably come in third behind the damn heavy Tige's.

MANNY I took it at Surf Expo this weekend.

MIKE I couldn't agree w/ you more I have rode an xstar in chop and it felt like we were on the ocean & our pleasure cruz was going to turn into a Gilligan's Island saga.

And YES it does have a deep V and No it is not an xstar hull hence it would defeat the whole purpose for the boat

My SAN 220 is solid in the lake chop. To clarify, this is on a 2,500 acre lake...mostly boat chop, some wind but not major rough stuff. I did prefer it over the 22VE I test drove on my lake. The Tige was very similar.

Dex, our V230 goes out on a lake with waves that have swallowed up a 700ft freighter (split it in 2). That would be the Great Lakes.

Here is that sad story.

My AVY does great with Choppy water, but so does my buddies Sanger(V230). I think Centurion/Sanger are both pretty solid in chop.

I was at PS, also Mojave in July (06 VLX Bu)...filled the center ballast cut thru the swells pretty well

I agree with the center ballast full the VLX cuts through chop.

Thanks guys for the help, were not really lookin to spend more than 32k, so a brand new boat is not an option. This thread is really helping me convince my dad into getting an inboard. Any more comments of boats for 32k, or any ads you guys can find would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Also: if anyone is interested we have a 1989 arriva for sale in the classifieds section.

Bryce, Used Sanger V215. There you go.

They are built so tight, it will feel like a new boat even if it is a few years old.

im going to have to disagree with you guys that the xstar is bad at handling rough water. i have taken my 04 Xstar in the tampa bay, rivers, have taken the beating of massive wakes by 30-40 ft yachts and have even come close to getting the boat air born once or twice, and the entire time i felt very safe and the ride was very good for a 22 ft wakeboard specific made boat. i would definately reccomend a bigger boat for rough water but if youre looking for a wakeboard boat that handles rough water. the xstar isn't a bad choice

you'd be better off with a Malibu 247 because of it's Vee shape in the front of the boat to slice the waves a little better.

My Centurion is awesome in the rough. It handles Tahoe like a champ.
