shorter board easier/harder to?

i,m buying a Ronix Ibex 134 i do weigh 180ibs
has anyone had problems riding a shorter board whats the main reason for the manufacture sizingis the size ment to inc bindings vest atc

I don't understand your second sentence, but, I think the 134 is too small for you.

IMO you should be ride nothing smaller than a 138; ideally a 140.

134 way too small for you. as jrod said 138 and up.

I ride the exact same board, and I am the exact same weight, I love it... I can toss it around with ease, the other board I ride is a 132...whatever you get you'll get use to

You can definitely get it done on that board.

There will be added resistance from the smaller board dragging through the water, and it will slow down abruptly on big landings in the flats.

I agree with J-Rod too. I am 175 and on the Transcend 142. I don't regret getting it over the 138 at all. Picks up speed easily, and the landings are super good.

Not to hijack,,, but i kinda wonder the same thing.. I have a 137.. 155 lbs.. wanting a second board. Do i go up or down.. just starting out and can almost wake to wake consistently..

Most of the riders I know go with bigger boards because of the comfort of the ride & landings. A shorter board will be more responsive, but 134? I think its to small.

I weight about 220lbs and have ridden a 135cm board before. I felt like Andre the Giant trying to wakeboard. Everything you do will cut harder and move slower. Those landings were the worst part. I had a tendency to just stick in the same spot in the water on landing and faceplant because of it. Luckily I just tried the 135 (some sort of O'Brien) on for fun and had my usual board on hand for regular riding.

And don't forget that not all boards are equal when it comes to length. You can get away with a lot shorter LF Fish and you may be wanting more length out of a Roam. And of course there's everything in between. My 140cm Motive feels longer than some 142cm boards I've ridden.

I was around that weight and rode a 134 substance for 2 years. I still got good pop and could do things but if my landing was going to be even slightly sketchy it was all over. You have to keep your weight so centered or you dip a tip or just slip out. I also had to ride a little faster than usual on that board to keep it higher in the water.

I now ride a 140 LF shane and love the bigger size!

An easy way to see if tell if your board is too short is if you are going out the front on landings. Like when you land square over the board you end up slowly tipping forward over the nose of the board.

I've been debating the same issue. I'm 5'6 ~163lbs. I am currently riding a Byerly 132 which feels too small but was really affordable at the time. I've been wanting the new Lyman 135 which is rated for 170lbs. But the 136 Shane is appealing because i believe it would provide softer landings.

i like the short boards better im 170 and ride a 133 fish , imoa i think its easier to toss it around and handle

salty, the fish is designed a bit differently. not apples to apples IMO. isn't 133 the biggest board in the line?

Andy hit the nail on the head. I had problems getting my HS 180's into the flats consistent because I would always go out the front. Now with a longer board it's no problem.

Is there such a thing as too big? The two boards I'm looking at right now are the Ibex and Slingshot... Slingshot I'd get a 142 but I'm not sure if I'd get a 139 or 144 in the Ibex.

Btw I currently weigh 175-180, depending how much I've eaten haha. But I ride a 139 and the only other board I've ridden was a 136 premier and I hated how small it was.

brett. your borderline between the 139 and 144. if your lookinf for a board that will last you a few seasons then go with the 144. however if yo plan on gettin a new board next season after you progress a bit more this season then go with the 139.
