Unless you play the music I like, I suggest and iPod with head phones!

Just kidding.

4 speakers and a deck, 500 bucks.

4 speakers and amp direct to your existing iPod. 5-600 bucks.

4 speakers, amp and deck, 7-800 bucks.

6 speakers, sub, two amps and existing iPod, 13-1400 bucks.

Remember, you dont NEED to have the latest and greatest stuff. I priced out some decent amps (Profile) with 6 speakers (Polk) and a sub and it came out to around 13-1400 bucks.

I also do all my own installs and make my own boxes.

Also, I think Circuit City has a deal were you buy two speaker and get the second pair 50% off. THey carry Polk as well. I personally like the DB690's. They are 3-way and have a rich full sound that can handle some serious power too. The 650-651's are cool too. I just like the sound of the 6x9's.

Go play around on the websites. BestBuy, CircuitCity and CrutchField. Find out what you can afford. Maybe check eBay too once you know what you're looking for. I wouldn't by used on eBay either. Again that's just me.

Nothing HAS to be waterproof.

However the Polk speakers I mentioned ar all water resistant and rated for marine use.

You do not need a marine amp or deck.

IF anything I would get marine rated speakers. They are the only thing likely to see water.
