SUPER STOKED!!! Moving down and moved in by Jan 6th. looking for an apartment, my friend meg is moving down here with me. Looking for a place in the greater orlando area; wondering if anyone knows of some "must check out" complexes or some "don't even drive by" places. We're *hoping* to find a 2 bedroom for $800 or less... any thoughts would be awesome.

All depends upon where you want to be.
Since the condo bust hit earlier this year, most conversions are back to renting. Mine even dropped $$.

The electric bill is going to be the killer for many.

Bess, I never heard what happened with regards to your possible concussion about a month ago. Whatever came of that...no more symptoms?

I'm pretty sure when she stated $800 or less she pretty much wants to stay in that range.
Start up cost for are going to hurt and for most it takes time to recover - especially with the wages here in Orlando.

Loren, I signed up for health imsurance and went to the doc the very next day. The doctor was less than helpful and sent me for a cat scan for a week later. So while waiting it got pretty bad, where I could hardly even walk straight so my friends dragged me off to the hospital, they did a CT scan and turns out no major damage just post concussion something or other. I still get a little bit dizzy from time to time but for the most part all is well. Thanks for asking and well wishes. Not to be all cheesy or anything but... I love my wakeworld family!

Defenitly trying to keep it under 800 a month if possible, my friend has some pretty steep student loans ($700 a month!), so we're defenitly a little bit limited that way. Are there any inexpensive areas that aren't sketchy? Or is that one of those 'you can't have it all' sort of things?

If you don't mind living with the college kids, as of the time I graduated (1998) you could get a room in a 4-bdr 2-bath college condo for $400/room for the month. That included water, electricity, local phone, cable TV and slow Internet, and each room has its own steel door with a serious lock to keep your room mates out. Those places usually have pools and gyms too, but no washer/dryer or place to park your boat and you are living with college kids.

Bess, glad to hear that things are working out with the concussion. Take care of your melon, they don't stock spares :-) Best of luck apt/condo/house hunting...that is my least favorite part of moving.

You can start here. : http://www.forrent.com/searchResults.php

http://www.apartments.com/Results.aspx?page=results&subarea3=y&area4=y&state =fl&rgn1=15&prvpg=5&Rent_Minimum=100&Rent_Maximum= 700&twobdrm=1&am22=0&am24=0&am49=0&am23=0&am13=0

just beware. Some of the nicer looking complexes have had a lot of criminal activity in the past few years.
I started you out on a max of $700. Many just have W/D hook ups. You have to pay a little extra for the ones with W/D already included.
Personally I find that worth the added cost.

Phantom, is there a general rule of thumb of where the bad/good areas are? I was aiming for east of rt 4, good idea? Bad idea?

Not looking to live on a lake, just a safe community where I don't have to worry about leaving all my equip. at home. Within a 45min drive of Lake Mary and Orlando. Any thoughts?

Check Ashington Park house rentals. It's behind UCF and there are a ton of houses for rent usually for pretty cheap. I live right down the road, and for Orlando/Oviedo, it's as good as it's gonna get as far as safety.

Just go to craigslist and select 800 max rent and 2br. You will get a list of places. This one looks good. I think Baldwin Park is the new development in the middle of town.
