Dustin White was tragically shot and killed this past Sunday at a party in Land O Lakes, FL. He was 17, a great kid, and an awesome wakeboarder. Our hearts go out to his family, and all that knew him.

I agree 17 is to young. My thoughts go out to the family as well, but i'm really confused. you KILL a kid and they just charge you with manslaughter? I read a few articles and wether it was accidental, I highly doubt it, or not, if you pick up a gun and fire it you need to be prepared to handle the consequences. I personally feel they should be Murder 1 and death by firing squad!

WTF? why do they make it sound like it's a common thing to have your gun fall from its holster!!! why do you need a gun for sake!!

RIP.

That's so tragic. WTF is the shooter doing firing off a gun if he didn't intend to shoot someone? Does he not understand how a firearm works? This terrible situation could easily have been avoided with a little common sense, but now a family has lost a son and a brother. RIP Dustin.

Being an active 2nd amendment supporter I can see why someone would want to exercise the right to conceal and carry HOWEVER you deal with the consequences and responsibilities that comes with that right. Regardless of how your firearm is discharged its YOUR responsibility and YOU should be held accountable. My get tells me the reason he is getting a lower charge is due to him "knowing someone" and/or having connections in the legal/justice system. Which is a realistic but very sad attribute of today's society.

My hopes and prayers are with Dustin's family and friends during this tough time. He sounded like a great kid.

Wow. How do you pick up a gun and shoot someone in the face??? tragic. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Manslaughter is weak and gun owner should get charged too. At least failure to conceal.

Manslaughter because "there was not intent to shoot someone". BS!!! Anytime you pick up a gun there is an intent to shoot, whether you meant to shoot a person or not is irrelevant, you picked up an implement of destruction and used it. I think that's why the home defense people tell you not to pull it unless you are ready to shoot someone.

Poor kid, RIP D. White.

This situation and a lot others are the exact reason I'm glad I live in a country where carrying a gun is not a common thing. It is absolutely redicoulous that a 19 year old with permit or not should have a gun on them. If your community is that bad that you need to carry why would you even want to live there.

I feel sorry for the parents that had to lose their child to a senseless death.

Irresponsibility with a firearm is no worse then driving a boat while intoxicated in my mind, the results can be just as tragic as what happened here.

The person who was carrying and the kid that picked it up will be affected the rest of their lives too I'd imagine.

As a father I can't (and won't even try to) comprehend what the parents and family are going through right now.

RIP.

They should hit that kid hard, more than likely he knew exactly what he was doing when he fired that gun.

Did intend to shoot someone even though he fired it into a crowd of people!?

Mark I hate freekin matches too. They should outlaw them so there would be no more fires right?

Senseless actions by a man/kid is all this was. The gun did not kill this kid.

Brad you are so right! ...guns don't kill people... people lacking self-control, respect, and comprehension of their actions KILL people!

He didn't deserve this, he was merely trying intervene and stop the violence that was ensued by none other than the accomplice.

Wake On... Dustin
