Ruined prop worth anything at recycler?

Basically what the subject says. I was talking to a guy who was selling a prop on craigslist and he made a comment about being able to get a decent amount of money at the recyclers. this was in response to what he thought was a low ball offer by me. I want to know if this is true because I have a unrepairable prop that I would love to get a few bucks out of if T could.

Aluminum and copper are worth a chunk of change. Not sure about brass, though. No matter what I couldn't imagine it to be worth more than $5-10. I know raw aluminum is around $3/lb. Copper is more than that.

it will cost you more in gas to drive to the recycler than you will get out of it..

THank god they aren't worth anything because then we'd have the tweakers stealing our props off our boats in addition to the catalytic converters off our trucks....i hate tweakers

I got 9 bucks for an old brass faucet the other day when I turned in a bunch of stuff from a remodel project brass is like 3 bucks a pound I think Call your local recycle place and they will tell you what your material is worth.

Are you sure its unrepairable? I ave had some seriously managled props repaired good as new.

I,m afraid someone that needs gas and food or drugs is going to steal my tower for scrap.If they strip peoples houses what's stopping them from boats?

Most inboard props are Nibral, an alloy of Nickel, Bronze, and Aluminum. Not sure on the ratio of each, but a recycler will usually pay by the pound for each material at a different rate.
They'll probably offer the lowest rate of the three materials.

My kid saves all my beer cans, and takes them in about once a month and gets around $40-$50 bucks each time.

Is your tower made of copper?...NO...than your probably ok. Towers are big and bulky had to fit into a car or even a truck for that matter. If it was solid aluminum than I would say worry. Scrap yellow brass is going for like $1.12 lb. Scrap Copper is $3.50 lb. Aside from shearing all the blades of it most likely can be fixed.

Actually i took it to a prop repair place and because of where it was bent (close in towards the middle) they wouldn't touch it. I gave them a thrashed prop that the guy i bought my boat from just threw in because he thought it was junk and they said sure we can fix that. It was kind of strange because one prop was nice and shiny and the other was beat to crap and they could only fix the beat to crap one.

You should be saving that money for your forthcoming liver transplant. Based upon 0.5 oz/can and a price of 55c for aluminum scrap you're putting away about 3000 cans per month - that's a lot of beer!

I think you'll find when you recyle them they have to be empty.

Aluminum cans get like 80 -85 cents lb around here
