I'm looking to buy some decent 6x9s for a tower box. I don't want anything super expensive but no crap. Any suggestions?

A lot of the guys (me included) are using the pioneer TS-A6990R

They are cheap and crank. I have at least 300 hrs on mine and are still running strong.

You should check out audiobahn's marine 6x9's they have horn tweeters in them and have a rms rating of over 200 watts I belive. I have the 6.5's and I love them. Especially on a tower getting all the rain and water and what not the water tite marine setup sure is nice.

ill vouch for the pioneers, we have 6..... i would be amazed if anyone could beat the sound for the price of those. you can find pairs for like 80-90 if you look around

Gonna have to agree with the Pioneers. I bought mine (6 3/4 rounds) three years ago and they set out in the elements year round. They still sound great even after taking a beating month after month of rain in the winter.

Another vote for the TS-A6990R's. I bought them on recommendations from here and am absolutely happy with them. I have 4 of them w/ 600 watts flowing to them. they are loud and clear.

I went a different way and got the polk momo's although i do like the grills on the new infinity kappa 6 X 9's. Tried the new box with the new sound stream amp for the first time this past weekend and it was freaken loud on the island and riding. The momo's are labeled as a marine approved speaker, for what that is worth.

Bob,

You have to have the most pimped out I/O I've ever heard of!

I've never seen a pic of it. Let's see your ride.

Other speakers I've heard that sound good are the Eclipse SE8495 4-way 6x9's. They look good also. Right around $110 dollars a pair at my local shop.

Oh and it's not about name brands Tom it's about speakers that are cheap and sound good. $70 a pair for the pioneers is money well spent IMO.

It look like my link bombed as well. Try etronics.com this is where I picked up alot of stuff on the last boat which worked great and the cost was cheap.
