I just moved here from Austin, Texas (job & family) and I need to know are there any lakes around here to put my Launch into? I did some internet searches and the closest lakes are West Branch and Portage Lakes (Turkey Foot & East Reservoir). It appear 45 miles out is Lake Milton. Any suggestions, from anybody in the area? (Also, please don't flame me for moving from Austin to Akron).

Having been to both areas (work - I live on Lake Lewisville, Tx) - I feel for you!
I think the average age in Akron is 60...
Good luck and happy boarding!

good news mike, akron is probably the best area in ohio, sometimes i drive 1.5 hours just to ride west branch. bad news is there is a three ft. chop on the weekend by 9am even on a calm day. don't even try portage lakes, their 1.5 million$ houses are worthless unless you like going 5mph in a pontoon boat. or you can just come up to huron city,on lake erie, i'm ready to ride anyday.

I ride on lake erie, i am like 1.5 miles from it. We get like 2 butter days a year and those are usually on tuesdays. It can be calm in the morning and 4-6 footers by noon, but oh well its deffinately big enough.

chris, aren't there any rivers up there that you can ride on?

Joe, where on the Huron River do you ride? I spend a week every year or so at Chaska Beach. I try to ride on Lake Erie weather permitting.

like chris said, erie is flat maybe two times a year. we ride the huron river right under the highway route 2 bridge. only problem is after a storm there are tree logs, but even those are cleared in a few days. wind has never been a problem.

Thanks for the info. I have never been upriver to route 2. I'll have to check it out this summer.

I know your problem. I live in Dayton and have an 04 X-Star but there isn't anywhere decent to ride. If you need a pull let me know.

How about Berlin Reservoir? It's not more than about 30 minutes from Akron down 224.

berlin lake is awsome, it is in the same dam system just south of lake milton, where the water is always flat

there is nothing else to ride on up here. My boat has to stay in the dock on lake erie.
