For all the knowledge and information that I have gained on this website, I wanted to share my ballast install to help others. I bought the fly high kit for the X2. The kit included 3 custom sacs, 3 three way valves, 3 check valves/T adapters, 50 feet of hose, and hose clamps.Upload
The first step and the most stressful step was drilling holes in the boat under the seats. I put the templates up and measured everything at least 4 times before I drilled. I then drilled a small pilot hole first. I then drilled the 1/4" holes for the screws and then the 3/4" hole for the valve. I ran the drill in reverse to start and that kept the gel coat from splintering. Here are the pics.

I had to take the handle off of the valves to install them. With the vavles in place, I went ahead and layed out the bags in their places. I started with the front. The basic concept is to run the discharge from the pump to the 3 way valve and the top discharge goes to the fly high bag and the bottom discharge goes to the factory hard tank. Here is a pic of the front pump and valve.Upload I just unplugged the hard tank line from the pump and hooked it to the 3 way valve. I then ran the line to the ballast going down the port side. Upload The next step was tying into the current vent with the check vavle/T combo. It was located under the dash coming from the front side. I then ran the line to the front to vent the sac.Upload
Upload That was it for the front. I then started with the port ballast. I had to acces the pump at the back of the boat in the locker. I then had to run the discharge of the pump to the 3 way valve and a line back to the hard tank. This wasn't hard, but it was a royal pain in the a$$.
Upload I then ran a line from the 3 way valve to the bag by drilling a hole in the plastic divider where the line lined up with the sac. Upload I then cut the port vent and added the check valve/T.Upload
At this point, I was out of hose. I couldn't believe that a turn key kit didn't have enough hose and I installed the valves and ran the lines as the directions showed, but that is for a different thread. I will finish the starboard side once I get the hose in, but it will be identical to the port side. The hardest part was unhooking and rehooking the line to the hard tank ballast. So far, I probably have 8 hours involved, but I spent most of that time drinking.

The last step was reprogramming my timers, which has proven difficult. One timer allows me to go up to 20 minutes and the other 2 allow me to go to 6 minutes. I figure I will need around 10-12 minutes to fill the hard tanks and the fly high bags. This will give me around 2500 in ballast and I am definatly looking forward to summer. I will keep you updated on the timer situation. Once again, I hope someone benifits from this, as I have benifited from the ballast install threads of the past.

Thank you as I am planning the same install!!! I was worried on how to go about it. It will help me!

I have saved the link.

I've done an install of this system on an Xstar, but on that you put the valves in the rear compartment. I wasn't aware that on an x-2 you would have to put them in the seating area. I can see this being a big drawback for a lot of people that are considering it. It's handy to get to, but it seems like you would hit your feet on those knobs/handles a lot, and they could do some damage.

Nick,
I stand corrected on the location by the directions after rereading them. Although, I still would of put the valves there either way. The valves don't stick out any further than the seat cushion and I doubt it will be an issue but I do see your point.

So the directions have you put them on the back panel of the rear compartment? That's what I would have expected. I could see some definite advantages to putting it where you have it, but it's good to have the alternative.

Nick, I installed my valves in the same place last spring and nobody ever hit their feet. Like Kevin said, the seat cushion above sticks out more than the knobs. The sacks fill up the compartments so much, anyway, that there isn't room in there to put the valves.
Whoever does the install, remember that 50 feet is not enough hose, so I would automatically request an additional 20 feet.

Good project. As a MC insider I can tell you you'll need that ballast in an X-2. Maybe more but that is a good start.

has anybody had any issues with this wearing out their factory pumps quicker than usual? they are not cheap to replace

I figured I need 20 more feet of hose but I ordered 25 just in case. I am just waiting for it in the mail to finish. If you do it this way you need 70-75 feet.

As far as ballast, I wouldn't think that I would need more than 2500 lbs.

Anyone have experience with fly high timers or any timer that would extend the fill time.

kevin, still no solution on my end. i was hoping you would have figured this situation out by now. i am assuming that the pump that works for 20 minutes is the one that has AI on it (active intelligence). my problem has been that during fill and empty the AI kicks in and shuts off the system when trying to fill the bags. it works fine on the hard tanks. once it shuts off due to the AI it throws the timers back to the default (6 mins) program. i hope you have better luck than i have. i am still looking for a solution. STAR STAR (aka- Ole Miss Rebels).

I installed the fly high in my 2006 x2 before they had a full kit. Essentially the same system as above.

What exactly are the knobs you drilled through the gelcoat to install? On/off valves so the system can be set to fill factory online? I did that, but essentially put them near the bags (different hardware), fully hidden. It is so rare I ever need that feature, I am surprised Fly High suggests drilling and putting them in plain view. If I was to purchase this kit, I would probably use my own shut off valves (if that is indeed what they are.) Or do they have something to do with the stupid MC timed ballast?

Side note - Mastercraft - timed ballast is great for 75% of the non-observant, non-extra-ballasting-installing MC owners out there, but please for the rest of us make it easy to disable that crap!

X2's are best weighted with a second X2.

Kevin

could you email me the info on the new timers.

Can someone explain how the usage of this system works. My assumption is the following but I have never used one in person.

The 3-way valves allow you to select whether the hard tanks get filled or whether the fly high bags get filled. I assume since it is mentioned that they are 3 way, that there are 3 settings? One for hard tank ONLY, one for bag ONLY and one for both hard tank AND bag? Is that correct?

So if you wanted all ballast filled (tanks and bags), you can just set it into the both position. If you have a rider that is happy with stock X2 ballast (hard tanks), you can set the 3 switches to the hard tank setting, etc.

Just looking for some confirmation on this from those of you that have installed one.

These valves used by fly high are 2-way valves. Fill your stock then switch the valves to the fly high sacs and fill them. This is the way they were in 07 don't know if they changed.

How do you go about reflashing your timers. I have a 08 that I want to put in just the bow sac. So I am wondering how to go about resetting the timers for the bow pump?
