So i've been wakeboarding for two years now and I've hit a rode block. This is as good as it gets for me.

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=57561 291

I would like to get more air so I can progress and do more. I'm a big boy 340lbs ride at 75' and 23mph My board is a era 147

Any suggestions? What am i doing so wrong besides enjoying beer and pizza just way to much? lol Is it even possible for me to get bigger air with out being in something that has wings and a motor?

Seen any pics of BG? He's a big guy but he goes HUGE, and destroys boards in new and unimaginable ways...

The water looks a little rough in the vid but you don't seem to be cutting in very hard, even close to the wake. Try leaning on that edge more.

The second jump it looks as though you might be letting off your edge just before the wake, hard to tell though.

Yeah more edge and hold it all the way up and through the top of the wake. You may feel a little more out of control at first but it will help big time for you to pull your handle in low and close as you comeup the wake. It looks like you are really letting the handle out when you land.

Smoother water will definately help you gain confidence.

Thanks for the advice guys. We're hitting the delta this weekend so I'll work on my edging, I do have the book so I'll pop that in too. Where can I find video or pics of BG going big? I'd love to see that. Thanks for the advice guys.

Ahhh come on Riley!

You have some things to work on Robert. I'd agree with working on your edge. Once you get comfortable clearing the wake with your current set up, begin adding line length, and then relearn the w2w jump.

You'll need to learn a good wake to wake pop. Drift in nice and slow, then edge hard up the wake, crouch down and stand tall.

how does B G Do that what speed and rope lenght does he ride at? I notice the wake is huge behind that boat also I wonder how much he has in his boat
Old     (wakedork)      Join Date: May 2009       05-19-2009, 2:59 PM Reply
First speed up the boat, looks like you wake is mush, and your busting through it. Also looks as if your sinking the board. It's should be big enough so you need more speed. If it feels to fast lengthen your rope. Add more weight, bigger teh wake easier it is. Now work on edge and body position.

Edge out hard, let up, start to drift back in, set your edge. Don't put your butt on the water. Lean back by bendning your knees. Practice this off the water when you edge your shoulders, hips and ankles should be in alignment with each other. In this position lean back and bring the handle into your waist. A good way to practice this off the water is to tie a handle to something sturdy (I usuallly say a door knob, hope you got strong doors, lol) anyway practice "squatting and leaning against the rope" remember this when you go to the water.

Now approaching the wake you need to "build your edge" start off slow and rock back like a rocking chair so you edging hardest at the wake. At teh trough let up slightly and stand tall off teh top of the wake pusing the handle down to your hips. Remember you are a spring, coil up coming into the wake and release off the top. You should be sailing in no time.

We started riding at the brink of Dawn, but we ride all day. Remember I'm big and out of shape! So I do a 10 minute run every hour or so Its all my fat A@# can handle! lol

And San Antonio chops out quick too!

We're hitting the delta this weekend so it shouldn't be a problem to get some nice water.

Look at Jason Bufflo on the first Delta Sessions for a big guy going big. I learn a lot by watching guys board of similar size/length to myself. Since a lot off pro/video riders are much shorter then me.
Cheers.

Trogdor nice comment and profile! lol If only it where so easy!

Did alot better this weekend we just got back from the Dirty 'D' Got alot higher and actually cleared the wake. Garry's gonna post a link up for the vids. I actually got enough confidence to go for a flip! (didn't turn out so well, bet heck you gotta try right?)

We rode 23mph a little longer on the rope and with the ballast full and the wedge down. I cut harder but think I still need to cut harder?

Maybe if I actually cut in a little harder I might land on something other then my head! lol

p.s. We gotta change the ipod because the music is just constantly getting worse! Last weekend we had michael jackson and duran duran in the vids and now you got me riding to taylor swift? Next thing you know you'll have footage of us riding in pink hats! Wait you did that! lol Gotta love wearing what you find in the dirty D

i just skimmed through all this but one thing i was taught and didnt see you do is to stand up when your popping off the wake, your knees are absorbing some of the pop and you dont want that.

How do I land in the flats and not crash.

for the tantrum and the back roll you are taking off too early. On the tantrum, cut in a bit harder, level out and ride up to the top of the wake then throw the shoulders back. you leave at the middle of the wake. on the back roll you are starting the head motion at the bottom of the wake. Take your time on both. I also think that another 1000 lbs in the boat would help. the wake is a bit small at least compared to what I am used to riding behind. Big guys need big wakes. I am 6'5" 245 and we ride with 3500lbs + in the boat. How are you weighting your boat?

Robert,
totally hit me up. I do need all the advanced notice that I can get though. Weekends are busy this time of year with traveling soccer stuff for the daughter. I think we are around until fathers day weekend though.

also how fast and what rope length are you riding?
Old     (gwperry2)      Join Date: May 2009       05-28-2009, 7:10 AM Reply
I think we had about 3000lbs of ballast and we were going 23 @ 75'. we are just getting ready for the season you have to remeber this second ride out trying to get the spider webs out. At the end of last year I was riding at 23.7 and 75 but not a full ballast.

I am a big (read overweight) guy. You can still go big, but it hurts more and I worry about my knees and ankles. Find the biggest board you can find and run 25 mph. I ride the 146 Marek and ride at 80 ft. I am 245 lbs. Here is a pic of me doing a front flip.

Nice kevin, heading back to the delta in the morning I'll try going 25 and 80 and hit it harder. I'll get there this summer for sure! Thanks for the inspiration everyone!

So no new footage of me riding I hit the delta up with a bunch of girls and really didn't ride much, but Gary hit up Mclure this weekend and landed the flip. Check out the vid, I say it looked dirty but he says he landed it and I still haven't so i have to give him credit on that one! lol

My suggestion would be to go faster. I weigh 150 and I ride at 23. I feel like if i doubled my weight up I would need to go faster to get any air. I do not really know but its worth a try.

I land my first tantrum of the year and it early so I am super stoked. I now ride at 78ft and 24.7 behind my buddies Centerion. When I get behind the malibu I only ride at 22 or 23 why is this?

You can't handle my wake! lol

Grow a pair and run 25 like me! lol

Wish I could land the flip though. Good job Gary, but it's on!

malibu's you just dont have to go as fast. See the thread about rope lenghth and speed. Most people ride 75-80 at 22.5 -23.5
Old     (gwperry2)      Join Date: May 2009       06-04-2009, 10:48 AM Reply
25 or 24 was way to fast for me didn't like it at all Y does it seem like you are riding way faster then other boats?
Old     (2006maliblue)      Join Date: Mar 2009       06-04-2009, 10:57 AM Reply
Gary it was probably because the way we were riding into the current plus we didn't have the fat sacs filled. Quit crying about how you can't handle going 25 We'll sack up and sink the Bu and you'll love it again. Man you sure are fickle. One second the Bu has the best wake you've ever seen the next you call it a speed bump? Might have to find a new wingman that doesn't complain so much! lol

Personally I think it was all the drivers fault! Who was driving? Ooops that was me! lol
Old     (gwperry2)      Join Date: May 2009       06-04-2009, 11:05 AM Reply
Must have been the driver r the fact that I almost got taken out by a fishing line!!!!!!!!!!! And the wake is the sh*t on the BU no complaning from me the FUELGUY

Yea how did that fishing line taste?

The best was how the fisherman yelled at us and said people fish on the delta you shouldn't wakeboard here and then preceded to call us dicks! Next time we're grabbing his fishing pole and shoving it up his a@#!

Mike Roese, man I met you years ago! We rode Lopez early. How is the family? Back then your daughter was just a little tike. Still got the same Malibu? Anyways, good to see you on here. Let me know if you ever need another for some early AM Blopez sets.

Robert You need to slam that bu. I am 270 and have the same boat. I ride at 23 and the difference between factory and extra ballast is night and day.
Old     (2006maliblue)      Join Date: Mar 2009       06-04-2009, 12:20 PM Reply
We usually ride with all the factory tanks full and the wedge down and 1500lbs in two fat sacs but tuesday night we were heading to taco tuesdays on the dirty d and just were to lazy to fill those sacs up. It is a huge difference with sacs and without. Gary just invested in some lead too so we'll be able to really sink the Bu. If you look at my profile pic I have no problem submerging the Bu.

Stephan...whats up? I think I remember you. How did we get hooked up? were you Tylers buddy? We had lots of different people in and out of the boat back then. Same boat, but thinking about selling it and getting a v-drive. fam is good. Ashley is 16 now, insane!!! we also have an 8 year old girl. I will hit you up for riding some time. We only got out a couple of times last year due to gas prices and Ashley's busy soccer schedule but hope to ride more this summer. Just tuned up the boat and ready to go.
