What does it mean if the hull is stepped? I am looking for a bigger boat if possible. Might be a good alternative to the SV230.

Same V as the Avy. I think the Avy is 19 degrees and the Enzo is 18.

Some off-shore racing boats have one or more mid-hull features, stepped hulls. These stepped hull features have made there way in to larger I/Is. The typhoon is the only wake boat that I know of with a stepped hull.

The hull is discontinuous and has a groove angling upward and forward. I think the idea is that at higher speeds that hull looks smaller to the water and has less drag and there for is faster. I'm not sure how that translates to wakeboarding or wakesurfing.

I think a picture would tell the story better.

Had to post this link. The boat in the picture shows two steps. The funny part is that it's a fishing boat and the brand looks to be Typhoon.

A stepped hull started as a performance boat thing (Hallet, Eliminator, Etc)it relieves suction from the water to hull and allows a boat to reach a higher top speed with less effort - see the steps in the side of this photo.

Also here is a your "V" comparison from a Typhoon and the Supreme 226 from another thread-

I love how similar the hull of the supreme and the avy are! Here is a picture of the avalanche and enzo hull. Really shows how different they are.

That deep "V" that the 226 and Enzo have is what makes them KILLER Surf Boats -

Those guys in the photos lover their Ford's and red Centurions don't they

The 226 doesn't look anything like the enzo to me. I think it really is similar to the Avalanche though. The enzo has such a unique hull design.

I agree, the 226 doesn't look like any Centurion I was making reference to the degree and depth of "V" in the back of the boats that helps create the killer wave. And the hull on the Supreme isn't even similar to the Avy - look at the free board difference this guy is 6' tall.

Check out James Harolds "big wave" post, the Falcon/Cyclone/enzo 216 style hull can make a wave. Plus in the case of your wife wanting to ski the Cyclone/Falcon is a AWSA certified 3 event boat so when your wife wants to ski she can do it without splitting her lip open with her knee every time she crosses the wake.

The consensus is test drive and go with what YOU want and need out of a boat, everyone is different and thats why these discussions are so good (and bad).

zap,

Yes those "big waves" are very tasty! Thanks for the recommendations as I will look into those as well. This forum has been very helpful-thanks to all.

Have you gotten a chance to drive or surf any of these boats yet?

Thanks for asking-NO! My week was crushed and had to cancel demo appointments. I want to go off on a rant but will stop now.

I will try for next.
