Miikka, those that live near the ocean might have to travel across rough channels to find the glass. I doubt he is riding in it, just going through it to get to the riding spot...

No wakeboard boat rides great in rough water....some ride better than others. If you want a great rough water ride, get an I/O.

Look for a couple year old Avalanche or Elite V. Since the Avalanche is bigger and heavier it will do better. You would be hard pressed to find a better rough water riding wakeboard boat than an Avalanche. Just add closed cooling and your good to go.

I see you ride in miami. I have a mastercraft x2 that i drive to marine stadium from my house which is by matheson hamock so it's like a 15-20 minute ride in the bay which gets pretty choppy. The boat does fine cruising down the bay at like 30 on all but the real bad days in which marine stadium would suck for wakeboarding and i can go out fine and safely on really choppy days as long as you only go 19-20 mph. I've hed the boat for a year and it has had zero real problems.

I've owned a Moomba (mobius v) and now an Avalanche c4, the Avalanche is much better in rough water.

As far as I've heard wakeboarding boats in general aren't good going through chop - there not made for it. I ride in saltwater too and when we have to go through the baddddd water we just go slow. They will make it through but its not a comfy ride...and a little more work.

will the chop damage the boat?
Old     (rallyart)      Join Date: Nov 2006       03-24-2007, 6:36 PM Reply
Impacts that slam and vibrate the boat will, over time. The epoxies and glass fibres are really good at taking a load but think of it as hitting your corvette repeatedly with a sandbag. Eventually something gives.
They are designed to take a lot though (much more than a corvette fender). Just travel at a speed where it doesn't pound hard. You can tell when you feel the slap that it's taking stress. If your bones hurt at the end of the ride over chop you might figure the boat could have gone at a different speed. It's not always really slow.

I would go with a MasterCraft. It's only wakeboard boat that offers a salt-water series. They designed all their new hulls for rougher water conditions.

Tigé is the best boat for big chop.......
You just need to find one with a closed cooling system for salt water....

Sanger is top notch in rough water!

Tige and many other manufacturers produce a salt water series option....

Again, i would say Tige. More mass allows more absorbtion of chopiness....at least that is what my physics teacher taught me in high school...

Dude where are you riding on the potomac that is very rough??? Unless you're going out around DC it's considered some of the best water around here.

Sanger hands down is the best rough water boat!

do you ride in marine stadium?

uhhhh, I had my Malibu VLX in Hawaii for two years before I moved here with it. We used to take it to the sand bar on Oahu and never had any problems in the Hawaiian seas (close to shore). To get to the sand bar, you had to drive thru a channel that could get very rough at times. Just keep that bow up and you will be fine. My friends had Nautiques and never had problems either.

I also sprayed the engine down with wd-40 everytime I used it out in Hawaii. Yes, it gets pretty greasy after a while, but nothing that an engine degreaser can fix. It's better to have a nice coat of grease on everything than SALTWATER. :-)

It's all on how you drive it and take care of it when it's in Saltwater.

I also upgraded the flushing system on it as well. The flush pro (to me) isn't good enough. You have to start your engine and it only gets the salt residue out at wherever your water level is at Idle, inside the engine (and exhaust risers).

So I'm assuming you don't want to buy a used boat?? Your price range can get you a variety of any used brand wakeboarding boat that is listed in this thread. More likely it would be 2003-2004 and depending on the brand of boat, you might be able to get a 2005.

Master Craft offers the CSX which is a center console wakeboard/fishing boat it is a salt water boat I saw it at the boat show it is pretty sick it can come with a tower as well you should look into to it. But it might be a little more than 30K I'm not really sure exactly how much the boat is but look into it you'll like.}}

Hey everyone, forget about that MSTguardian for now. My bad.... I just got word that one of the share holders in the company quit and then stole proprietary information and started his own company with the same product. The current owner shut down the company until the lawsuite is settled.

My Moomba LSV handles the chop better than I expected. No wakeboat will be great in the chop, but anything with a fairly deep V will work great. Either a new LSV or a used XLV if you can swing it. The outback V is the old LSV hull, and is not as deep.

I bought a Tige because it can handle rough water better than many of the other boats out there. It has a very solid feel and where I do my boating gets very rough in the afternoon so I wanted a decent ride.

Tige's are awesome in rough water- high freeboard makes them comfy and dry and the hull construction is outstanding- no rattles, or shakes in the heavy stuff. Sanger's are nice, but the freeboard it way lower than tige and the ride's not as dry especially if you're in the bow.
