Yes, this is a very important issue at this time...

When the mob comes to steal everything you own due to the shut down of the federal government and most of private industry it will be VERY important how marriage is defined. The guy who keeps you as a slave and forces you to work on his "farm" in exchange for food will not be able define what marriage means according the then defunct federal government. Maybe the UN or the Chinese will enforce the new law; or repeal of the old one..
