This afternoon we took our neighbors and their family out on the boat because theirs was broken. Their neice, Meagan Howes was wakeboarding and took a fall and somehow hit her head on the board. I didn't see exactly what happened. She needed help getting into the boat, but once in passed out. We called 911 and an ambulance and got back to the dock. Took the ambulance about 15 minutes to get there. We rested her on a tube and she was in and out of conciousness and was having some small siezures. She got a few words out but the were too slurred to understand what they were. The ambulance just took her to the hospital.

The very first thing i thought about was what happened to Colby. We can only pray that this is not that bad.

So please send out a quick prayer for Meagen and the Howes family. It cant hurt. Thanks.

Meagan just walked out of the hospital about an hour or so ago. She appeared to be fine and didn't want to use a wheelchair. They did a catscan and it came back fine.

Its amazing that she was unconcious and having siezures off and on for almost 30 minutes and a few hours later is up and going with very few problems.

Thanks to everyone that read this thread and sent out a prayer.

That's great to hear she's doing better. Just have them keep an eye on her for several days. After one of our riders took a bad fall (concussion) he passed out again a day later.
Better to be safe and keep a close watch.

a situation where a helmet would have helped eh? I'm hearing more board-to-head stories all the time.

I have never had a rider or myself hit our heads on our boards. I had a tough enough time when they passed the motorcycle helmet law in my state. I could never see myself wearing a helmet on the water (Can you say revenge of the nerds) Glad to hear this girl is ok, hope she gets back out there as she probabbly will never hit her head like that again with her board

I am going to order a helmet tonight. From what I've read the Pro Tec Ace Wakes are pretty good quality. Any input?

Never say never.

Better to look like a nerd on the water with a helmet than someone special wearing a helmet who has to ride on the short yellow bus for the rest of their life.

Pro- Tec Ace should be fine. Just make sure you get the right size.

If my board comes off my feet on a fall, I ALWAYS come up covering my face and back of my head and come up slowly to try to avoid these things.

Colby is still in a nursing home and has not really come back to full consciousness. He can grunt and interact to some extent to communicate. He is getting physical therapy to help get him up and moving. He is making progress but it is very slow at this point. Please pray for him to recover.

I'm glad to hear that she is ok. I took a nasty fall this weekend too. Landed on the wake and face planted. One binding came off and the board smacked me in my head. I have a nice gash across my forehead now and the left side of my face is swollen. Really scared me and I feel very lucky, could have been much worse.

Jeff, it was east of the 377 bridge across the lake from Harbor Lakes. I'm not sure what the neighborhood we were by is called.

Yea, maybe about a little less than a mile east.
I just got in from riding and there was definetely a little bit of a mental block on certain things.
