So I have never been wakesurfing and wanted to know about the boards that work for it. What size do they need to be? I am about 185 lbs. if that helps. What is the best option for just a cheap board to get started with? Does just a regular surf board work fine for learning or would it be tough to learn with one?

Check out our wakesurfboards. You can see them on our website www.ghettohouseglassing.com

Kelby,

You can learn on just about any properly sized board. An old surfboard would be fine, as would the molded boards from the HL, LF or CWB which are low cost alternatives. The WP also has an entry level 5-oh. :-) You are not heavy by any means, but are starting to get out of the 'light weight' range.

When first starting to learn, most folks do better with a longer board. Something in the 5' to 5'6" range in a wakesurf specific board or around 6' in a shortboard.

Just make sure you have a wake that will allow for the longer boards when learning. A too short pocket can intimidate folks when they are learning, especially on longer boards that "appear" to be only inches from the transom.
