I was looking at my LSV the other day. isnt the steering cable right in the way of the box? how did you get it out of the way so the sub box will fit?

Shoe, you can see the steering in the pic above, it's the square thing. Looks like his box just clears and so does mine.

The box fit in there just fine, its only 13" tall. The trim panel is right at 19" I believe which brings it in right under the steering cable.

Whats the best way to remove that kickplate under the dash?
Old     (kikitlo)      Join Date: Jul 2005       04-16-2009, 5:55 AM Reply
There are 5 screws in the bottom that secure it to the floor. I believe mine had three along the bottom of the floor and two where the "shelf" is on the right. You have to feel for them as they are hidden by the carpet.

Hey Neves, it looks as though we share JL sub / Arc audio eq / mounting location combination

You guys are gonna make me drive down to the shop and take a picture of my box. I stuffed 1 15" L7 Under my dash custom fiberglass ported box with a polycarboante viewing window. And I had to stuff it. Had to remove the little storage tray in the walk thru and make a fiberglass piece to block it off and had to remove the panel the driver cupholder fits in just to sneak it in there! lol I'll get pics tomorrow for you guys!

All of the setups posted look pretty sick, but Anthony, yours is just crazy, I wonder how many others have a similar row of woofers under the seat like that. How many are you running?

I'm currently in the process of mounting a 15" L7 under the dash of my Malibu I got a few pics of progress so far. Should be all done in a week or two!

The Speaker

So I bought the speaker and made the box but found to get the air volume I needed I ran into space issues. The little cubby compartment in the walk through was in the way. So I made a block off plate, fiberglassed it and painted it white to match the boats interior gelcoat. I painted the box and block off plate yesterday. After the paint completely dries I'll paint the inside. Inside well be House of Kolor Limetime Green with Tru Blue flames! I should have it all done by next weekend. I'll put more pics up after its done. These two pics are of the block off plate installed and the exterior of the box painted white to match the interior of the boat.

what are the box demensions for the L7 and should it be vented?
Old     (05mobiuslsv)      Join Date: Apr 2006       04-21-2009, 7:50 AM Reply
Wow venting that box to the side of the hull is going to rattle the shiate out of your dash....
Old     (2006maliblue)      Join Date: Mar 2009       04-21-2009, 9:46 AM Reply
Well volume kicker specs said 3 to 6 cubic feet I ended up with 3.5. I am dynamatting the side of the hull and making a top header thats dynamatted that should help with sound transmission. The 15" L7 isn't the cleanest sub in the world but its one of the loudest and thats why I went with the ported box. I'm just going to turn this on when I want to blow someone out off the boat. For cleaner sound I'll just run a sealed 12 I have in the storage compartment under my glove box. You can run these ported and they are louder it just takes a larger box to get the proper volume.

does a ported box make things rattle more than a sealed box?

my ported box makes my dash rattle like CRAZY!!! I need to try and fix it, but was hoping to avoid building a new box.
Old     (2006maliblue)      Join Date: Mar 2009       04-21-2009, 2:49 PM Reply
I spoke with Phil at Kicker and he said the ported box itself won't make things rattle more, however the ported box is louder and that may cause things to rattle more. He also said while some musical quality may be loss to the ported design a properly made ported box, kicker specs, should still have a very high quality.

He also said any rattles that arn't the box rattling itself well not change with a different box. He said to isolate the rattles and wrap them in foam or secure them to stop the rattling, that or just crank your tower speakers up so loud you don't hear the rattling! lol

Hah!

Sorry, I have been away from this thread, but in general, any time you add bass to a vehicle you are going to have rattles. The fix is to either turn off the sub, or eliminate the rattle. Foam helps lots of times, as I shared with Robert!

Good luck, thanks for all the great pics and inspiration guys!

Robert that box is huge. Where is your feet going to go? I think I would of gone with a sealed box Or put the ported where your amps are at least the air movement in that area might keep your amps from over heating.
Old     (2006maliblue)      Join Date: Mar 2009       04-21-2009, 8:33 PM Reply
Yea I know but I'm running out of room in my boat. lol We went crazy this winter and we're almost done. I put a 19" flat screen under the glove box and another 15" in there. I put all the amps in the front bow under the seats on a custom fiberglass rack then sealed them with plexi to keep the water out and I have a fan on one side that draws air in and one on the other side that draws air out!

I kept one locker empty in the back to keep my stuff in it but the other locker we installed a kegerator and mounted the tap where the stereo remote use to be on the back of the boat.

I wakeboard a bit but usually find I'm standing when driving and 90% of the time we're parked in a party cove just having fun and raising a rukus! lol

I'll take pictures tonight and post it up first thing in the morning. I figured I'd get yelled at because wakeboard boats are meant for riding not partying! lol It stays cold what happens is the keg is pressurized my a co2 tank and then the beer goes into a cooler, basically a ice chest with coils wrapped in it, ( a jockey box) then it comes out the tap. The jockey box you fill with ice to cool the beer as its poured! Works great!

gotta see the kegerator...LOL On another note. I dropped off the boat today to the stereo guy. I just told him maximize the volume and retain some legroom. Should I have him port the box or not?

What I've been told ported is louder but you get a quicker response sealed, and I'll put pics up tomorrow might have one on my camera phone let me check! lol

is it a big job to replace the box that is already there with a custom box with a L7 in a malibu ? how much can it cost to make it done at an audio shop ? Also is it possible to put back the factory box in place for resell in the future ?
Old     (2006maliblue)      Join Date: Mar 2009       04-23-2009, 10:04 AM Reply
Cost well just depend on the shop you take it too and depending on how far you go it can be a project. But it doesn't have to be. You can run a smaller boax and it'll fit in back of your stock cover! I no if I had to pay to have my box made they would probably charged me 600-700 bucks just for the box.
