So I had a plan to make a new board for every contest this year and make the podium at each So far I'm on track with the TWC and Nationals, I'm hoping I can finish one for the NWWSA event at the end f the month and then I have to ride it well enough! So here is my idea. I'm just really liking custom car paint schemes where it wraps the rails and cntinues top to bottom, the bottom only graphics or discontinuance seems pedestrian to me This is what I'm copying:

I couldn't quite match the colors, but at least I found red, green and black! I'm going to have the green at the nose, hoping for just under 1/2 the length with the red at the tail. The transition between the green and red will be gloss black. I think that the process will be: 1) Prime 2) Lay down the green 3) Mask the green I want to keep 4) Lay down the red 5) Using the matching off cut from the green masking, mask off the red, leaving 1/4" for the black 6) Lay down the black on the transitions 7) Peel all the tape off and clear coat it. 8) Make the podium at the end of the month

I used to do paint jobs like that but from the inside out for RC cars a long time ago. It was fun. But if you screwed up, you just bought another 10$ transparent body. That looks like a lot of fun, but a lot more difficult. I guess thats why I stick to the computer now, you have the added benefit of gettin high of the fumes. ;-)

@ tonyv420 - not for sale, I was hoping to ride it at the NWWSA event, but I'm having traction issues, not sure that this board will be ready in time. @formandfunction - those are so sweet! I love the wood grain you painted on the roadmaster. Let's work something out! I love your work!

I got the primer on yesterday before hitting the lake. I didn't get any pictures, but I laid down the green on the nose last night after returning from the lake. Hopefully, I'll get the green masked tonight, ready for the Red on Saturday morning.

I use a scrap of skatelite for laying the masking tape down on, nothing sticks to that stuff.

The offcuts that I'll use to match the masking above so that I can put a black "pinline" around the transition.

I guess that original design simulate teared paper effect. Its hard to cut it by hand. Wonder how pros do it? Scan teared paper and cut it on a plotter? Any ideas Brock?

There is a good video, I think on YouTube, the artist drew the tears by hand on the masking tape and then cut it out using a single edged razor...the big difference between him and me is that he has TALENT and I'm a hack.
