Narrowed it down to a 2000 X-star or 2001 X-9, which is the best all-around boat, have most of the same options...thanks

Go with the X-Star for sure if wakeboarding is your main focus.

i would say i wakeboard 65% of the time and waterski the remainder....

Well if you get the xstar it will be wakeboarding 100% and waterskiing nothing.

X star unless you really like to ski a lot.

Even though the X9 is a DD, I'll put the 2000 X-Star ski wake vs an X9 any day......The X9 and X10 share the same (wider) hull.....Ski wake is wider with a higher table......X9 does everything good, but not great, doesn't ski great, doesn't wakeboard or surf great. If it is in good condition, go with the 2000 X star, legendary wakeboard wake, good ski wake coming from the prostar 205 hull, better surf wake than the X9. Plus, it's a Vdrive so higher demand and better resale value.....

thanks Bryan, sounds like you know what you are talking about, how does the X-star handle in rough water?

one other thing, does the X-star graphic on the side of the boat come off easy?

I will say the X9 has a great surf wake. Not the biggest but its very clean and firm.

Yes the X-Star graphic comes off. Ummm As for the X-star in rough water... it'll do as good as any other wakeboat, but the freeboard on the X-star is significantly higher than that of the X-9. Honostly the X-star wins in every category. I still do like the lines of the X-9 a lot.

That x star graphic comes off but then you are left with a big circle of colored gelcoat underneath that sticker. Looks really weird IMO w/o the graphic.

I am in agreement with Brian. The X-star just will be much more of a better boat for your needs. Especially boarding and storge wise. As you progress you will def wnat the storage of a v-drive to hide sacs and whatnot. Like what has been said. X-9 is a bigger d-drive and the ski wake isn't top notch and being that you board more than you ski and the X-star is on the same hull as the 205 I would def go with X-star hands down. But I am bias.

Not for nothing, but how can you tell that's a "clean xstar?"
Old     (tyboarder03)      Join Date: Nov 2003       06-16-2007, 9:23 AM Reply
It looks clean!!!! The boat overall is clean. If I see a classic car or any car in good shape, I'll be the first to say "thats a clean looking ..." If you're here to start something go away Brian

calm down boys!!! How does a 2000 maristar rate against an X-10, i am going to look at one in tahoe and really like how it looks, it is a little overpriced at 35K, your thoughts
Old     (dhcomp)      Join Date: Jun 2003       06-16-2007, 12:57 PM Reply
the 210 maristar is the x10, same exact boat (except for the current year 210).
It just doesn't have built in ballast or a tower stock.

I'd get the x star - the x9 is a LARGE direct drive, doesn't ski that well, doesn't handle that well, and isn't as comfortable for people as a V drive.

If you want to ski, get an x7. If not, get the xstar.

the x9 doesnt handle that well? Mine handles pretty damn well... as far as skiing... it is sanctioned for both events... Not saying its great for both events but it didnt get power boat of the year in 2001

I'm just saying it is literally impossible to tell if that xstar is "clean" or not from that picture.

Good Point Brian way to reassure everyone!! Why bother making a statement like that?
Joe- To get the best bang for your buck... the original X-star turned X-2 now X-1 has one of the best wakeboard wakes when weighted!(ask anyone) and also has a killer ski wake unweighted. I'd just pull the trigger if it's the right price.

WEll can assure you that the boat is mint Vinyl and Gelcoat are still showroom......One nick in the upholstery above the driver side step and one small dock ding in the rear about the size of a grain of rice. Other than that its pretty much showroom. Thank the previous owner and also my anal self. Probably one of the cleanest boats around. Would put it in a showroom and you could barely tell it was used. Just the carpet is a little smushed down...kind of lost it's fluff but hey its 7yrs old with 600hrs. and still purrin. I believe if you take care of it it will take care of you

I think its in better shape that me HAHAHAHAHA

To defend Ryan a bit maybe he meant clean looking like graphics and lines rather than actually clean. Just another way to look at it. Guys around here use that term like that all the time.

Joe the 210 and X-10 ;ike said are essentially the same boat with different options. The X-10 just has the wake stuff standard and a different grphic option. The wake compared to that of the X-star is gonna be wider and much more rapmy. You will need much more ballast to create a larger wake out of the 210 just on size alone. But I do know that as far as a bigger v-drive it has a decent ski wake. The 210 blows the X-star/205V away in rrom and storage so extar ballast isn't a problem. But hands down the X-star wake is gonna beat it out with kick and amplitude imo. Why I went with the boat I did.

it is a maristar 230, don't know if that matters, love lines of this boat...between this and the x-star....your advice has been great, keep it coming....
Old     (xstarrider)      Join Date: Jun 2007       06-17-2007, 7:30 PM Reply
The 230 is a HUGE BOAT. Tons of room and storage. Wakes well I and never been behind a 230 so cant comment. ?Just know that thing is humongo and has tons of room for ballast which you will def need. Have you been behind the X-star? I would def try and ride behind both and see which wake you like for sure. They will be somewhat different. I ride with a very small crew usuallyjust my wife and our 2 girls these days, when I am not with them max 4 usually so the smaller boat suits our needs for sure, That x-star/205V gets very small very quick with gear and people. If I had more than that in the boat all the time I woould def have a bigger boat, but that not being the cas IU love the original X-star/205V/X-1 for our needs.

Had the 01 X30 for 4 years and it is a great boat. It is only 3300 lbs and I think the Xstar is 3050 lbs. That means its only a few hundred lbs for all the extra room. Drove that boat around the country with over 20000 miles of trailering, and it was good to tow. The room in the boat is very nice, and the wake with another 1200 lbs along with the factory is a nice wake. Had a lot of fun with that boat. Would buy one again if I had not found a good deal on an 06 XStar.

X-star in rough water..... LOL!!! They ride pretty poorly, but that's not why you buy a wakeboat. If you want a smooth rough water ride, then buy a Cobalt. It'll handle it with the relatively high freeboard, but it'll do some pounding in the process.

It is however an absolutely legendary wake. Happens to be one of my favorite boats ever. The only boat I like better is the new X-star and that's mainly because I like the space inside and the the smoother ride. Wake to wake comparison..... They're both awesome and as capable as any rider could wish for.

You will sacrifice the ski wake if you go with the 230
