High-def content?

Just curious if there are any Blu-ray or other high-def content available anywhere? I know Push Process and some other new projects were shot all with HD P2 cameras or better. Anyone know of Blu-Ray or other releases coming up.

Is there any demand for it?

I am very interested in this too. With the recent developments around the format war, I'd expect Blu-Ray before HD-DVD for new projects but who knows what may be available.

In dream land The Truth would be remastered in HD. And any future projects from Mr. Stevens. I would imagine also a lot of newer films are at least being shot in HD...

I think we will not see HD wake content for awhile. If we do see it, it'll be from somebody like Justin or Bame- because they have the financial backing to get it done. "Out of pocket" producers like myself will have to wait a bit. The cost of replication at this point is very high. When I checked on replicating Updog on Blu-Ray, you had to go thru Sony studios to do it and it was about $8 a disc, which is crazy!!! At least I have it mastered in HD, so that way when next gen replication comes down it'll be ready to go!!!

Picture This was put out on HD DVD- however the HD transfer was terrible- I still prefer watching it in SD because of all of the artifacting. GREAT VIDEO BTW...

I thought it would be awesome to get some HD content since Blu-ray is the presumed winner now in the format war. Just seems natural since most of the stuff is shot in HD anyways. Hopefully since Blu-ray is the winner, maybe the replication prices will come down quicker?

Even having taken a side on the format war and losing (having purchased the external HDDVD drive for my Xbox 360) I agree that it is over. And I agree with your prediction that the price will come down for replication due to this.

HD-DVD will die a slowish death and remain relevant for home users (I hear) but Blu-Ray will be the commercial standard, and the one we'll probably get our wake videos delivered on first.

Again... I think it will be awhile before we see mainstream wake videos on Blu-Ray. The audience that will buy a wake dvd is VERY small to begin with- now couple that small number w/ how many of them that own Blu Ray players. You may see some producers that do a limited run of "burned" Blu-Rays, but I am talking about glass-mastered (stamped, replicated) Blu Ray discs.

For those following the format war... Good news for Blu Ray though- Wal Mart announced today (Friday) that they are going exclusive Blu Ray. Netflix and Best Buy have already announced this, as well. As soon as the Paramount contract runs out in May w/ HD DVD, I believe Toshiba will finally pull the plug (they cant until the Paramount 5 free DVD contract is fulfilled in May).

what about downloads? i'd love to get even a 720p version of some of these wake vids. itunes offers short films up to 40 minutes or so and many wake-vids are about that length. why not get them on there?

If in 6months from now they're aren't HD movies announced at the very least, I will be very very surprised. Any good filmmaker has this on their horizon. I am a crappy one (using that term filmmaker lightly here) and it is even on my horizon. In the next 6 months I dont want to shoot any SD video anymore. If I were doing it commerically I would have already switched.

Just because something is released in SD doesnt mean that's how it was shot. I didnt say HD is not on my horizon. I've been shooting HD for the past 2 1/2 years!!! Like I said in an earlier post, I mastered Updog in HD, but chose to down convert to SD for the masses. When Blu Ray replication becomes affordable I can "re-release" a full HD version.
