I'm trying to replace all the interior speakers in my Tomcat and need some suggestions. I've got 4 6.5's now and am looking to go to 6.

Thanks

I just sold a customer a pair of Pro80's for his boat. He was throwing rocks at his Polk Momo's... No joke.

I'm sure he was John, for how much though? Besides he said interior speakers not tower.

I got these Polk MoMo's for $70 a pair from Crutchfield on clearance, $210 for 6

Yes, but he's also comparing those to other 6.5" speakers that he's had up there too.

Another customer with a 29' Baja replaced all of his Polk's with the 650's and it was a huge improvement also. Cant beat 6 speakers for $210 though.

May be worth looking into the new SS-65's from Wet Sounds. Due out this month!

Thanks for the input so far. Just to make it clear I am only talking about speakers for use in the boat, I'd like to swing the wetsounds since I'm as happy with my Pro 80's and MB8's as I am but I'm having a hard time justifying the price. It looks like I missed the deal on the momo's through crutchfield. I'd looked at both the db651's and the mm651's since they seemed to be pretty popular. Anyone listened to each of them, if so what's the difference. Any other recommendations?

Thanks

What's the difference between the two versions of wetsounds?

I wish I had more info, but cant find. I'm betting it was in an email press release that got lost when my laptop crashed about 6 weeks ago. They look to be a line of in-boat speakers that are not quite as high-performance as the xs-650's, but with all the quality as the rest of the Wet Sounds lineup. Call them and ask.

Sounds good, I'll do some looking around for info on them. I'd call but it's a bit more difficult since I'm in Greece right now, the call isn't tough but the time difference is a pain. The other thing is I'm trying to get something on order so they'll be ready to install when I get home in a week or so.

I did a quick search and so far no info on the new model. Probably not an option anyway though since I'm trying to have something on order in the next couple days.

Anyone got a recommendation on the different polk's ie db or mm's?

The mm's are the newer model and they look cool with black grills. you can get both on ebay all day long brand new for the $65 price for 2 of the DB's

For the 650's do they need a lot of power or are they just capable of handling it?

RMS is 100W, so you need to stick close to that, or more.

Another question about the MM651's, does anyone think it'll be a problem if I run them parallel. I've got a four channel amp and want to run one set off the front channels and then two sets off the rear channels but that's down to a ~1.3ohm load...
Old     (jonyb)      Join Date: Nov 2008       06-21-2009, 2:34 PM Reply
I wouldn't go below 2 ohm. The amp won't like that too well.

Mike B

Run the three 2.7 ohm speakers in series to one side of a four channel amp bridged into two channels... this nets out to the equivalent of 4 ohms per each amp channel (design condition)
