Does anybody out there use a Hypertech, superchips or other tuner for their gas truck? I have a Chevy HD with the 6.0 gas v8 and want to get more power. i alread have a Cold air and exhaust installed. What one works best from your experience?

I have a Wester's custom tune and it works very well on my 6.0 GM. It can be dialed in for your exact needs (towing, fuel mileage, transmission shifting, fuel type, altitude, power, etc.). I got mine from Butch at: http://www.westersales.com/Westers/index.htm. Service was/is great.

Haven't tried the others, so I can't comment on those.

While we're on tuning my 2000 Yukon with a 5.3L is really flat when towing, like painfully weak. Only 57,000 miles, gets about 12-13 mpg even when not towing. Any ideas?

Last weekend I was towing a 4 place snowmobile trailer up fairview canyon. My dad's 97 yukon with the 5.7 will do about 45 up the canyon, mine would only do 30 up the same canyon with the same load. Help?

Patrick you will love the Smarty. One of my bro's has it on his and that thing is fast. I am going with a SCT X3 with custom tunes for my Powerstroke. Are you going to do exhaust and intake?

hypertech chip worked the best with my old chev 05 2500 6.0 liter tried the superchip but had computer issues (engine warning light)
In my ford had the superchip set back to them after running it in the truck to setup for the supercharger
excellent customer service and great performance
and if I kept my foot out of it higher gas mileage 14-16 only get 8 towing
not bad for a truck on 35" and 6" lift

Craig did you have any troubles towing with the Hypertech in 91 or 87 octane settings? Like trans runnig hotter than normal.

christpher no problems I like the hypertech because it makes the most power at 87 octane
takes about 15 minutes to change it to 91 octane , more power but i wouldn't tow with this setting
Had mine at 89 octane middle setting good performance and towing
trans ran normal
the chip firms the shifts to prevent it
along as quickier shifts

if you add a supercharger have the tranny rebuilt for the power, mostly torque converter
I rebuilt mine after I twisted the drive shaft and toasted the tranny
one drive shaft
one tranny
one set of rear tires
the sound of a supercharger at full throttle
priceless

Blake, I plan to do a straight back turbo exhaust-no muffler, no cat, AFE stage 2 intake, Smarty tuner, and Diprocol boost, Pyro, trans guages to start with. In the future, I plan to replace the stock Trans for something a little beefier to handle the higher levels on the Smarty. Who knows were it will all end up as I have an obsessive personality when it comes to the boat and the tow rig.

Patrick most of us boat and/or diesel truck guys are. Once you get a taste of what the diesels will do, it is hard not to keep adding power.
