$400 is about all I want to spend on a digital video recorder. Anyone have any suggestions on the best for the buck?

i read your post in the other forum, and posted the response below.

judging by the specs i read online, the jvc gr-d33 sounds like a decent camera. but, i've always been partial to sony's cams. a comparable sony cam is the dcr-hc20. check it out!

some things to consider buying;

1. extra batteries and/or longer life battery,
2. wide angle lens,
3. underwater housing,
4. tripod,
5. fisheye lens,
6. extra tapes,
7. a really good camera bag.

here's a link for some tips on filming.

the most important tip in that link is tip #1 - "keep the camera steady!" i'm guilty of shaky footage sometimes, but it just takes practice.

to get your footage from your cam to your comp, use a firewire cable from the cam to a firewire card in your comp. make sure your comp has a fast enough processor, as well as having sufficient memory. i wouldn't go any lower than 512mb.

for editing, are you looking for "professional" grade editing software? if so, check out adobe premiere pro 1.5. you can go to adobe's site to download a trial version. if not, if you have a registered version of windows, you can get windows movie maker 2 from microsoft for free.

if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. i, or someone else will definitely respond to help you out.
