Poll: How many ride with/without fins?

I have a CWB flame and have been riding with Fins. I can almost clear the wake heelside but suck on toeside.
I'm going to take the fins off this weekend and give it a shot but am just curious as to thoughts and the number of people finless.

Dude I'm not trying to be a dick, but you can't even go wake to wake and you want to ride finless. Get your fundamentals down 1st and then take that step a year or two down the line. I know a lot of good riders that ride with fins. I don't know why everyone wants to ride finless so fast.

Just depends on the board. My girlfriend learned on an 03 premier finless and I don't think it hurt her progression on bit. I think it might even teach you better edging because you cannot rely on fin so much. Just my thoughts later, mike

I ride with my two cupped fins only on my LF Team, I like the looser feel of it. I tried riding a board with fins and it's a huge difference, I feel locked-in with the fins now after riding without them for 2 years.

Kenny is on to it. Riding an absolute finless is the same as a 3DS with .7 fins.

That question really only relates to individual boards.

bro leave your fins on. you have no reason for taking them off now. once you can edge correctly with them, then try your board without them. when you ride without fins you have to be spot on with your riding. they correct alot of mistakes and generally are much more helpful than hindering. leave em on

I took my fins off two seasona ago and I wil never go back. I love the fact htat my board isn't tight in the eater and I can spin it super easily. I ride a 131 belmont - and it is the
s$%t w/o the center fin

I agree with Mike in that riding finless does actually help teach you to edge properly, and helps technique. You don't just try to turn your hips, and then try to make the fins track and turn the board... you gotta lean.

i ride without my fins because if i have them on i cant even do a surface 180!!!! fins can help especially for beginners becuse they keep you from sliding around so beginners should use fins--experienced riders--no way!!!!

im riding a 05 premier w/ no fins- its different at first but you get use to it. it all depends on your comfort level and ridinig ability.

I ride the Watson without the center fin and love it. I'm not an advanced rider but I agree that riding finless has helped me with my edging a lot. I don't think I will go back~

I ride an 05 freemotion and I took the fins off and it made a huge difference. It made edging a lot easier and I had more fun finless.

2nd season, im still riding with a centre fin, but it is a smaller one now than my first board.

but ive also yet to even try finless.

Sean are you riding the 1.9 fins that come with the Flame? If so I would say to go down to the 1 inch or .75 inch absolute fins, that way it wont lock in as hard as the 1.9s but you will still have more of a locked in feel then riding the board with just the molded fins. IMO the 1.9s are just to big for a board with molded in fins.

Greg ~ Yes, I ride both my boards with fins. I took them of the fish one day and put them right back on. I'm not the greatest rider and need my fins, but it's just crazy to me that everyone wants to ride finless.

Mike ~ I know you rip and your girl is pretty good too, but do you really think a new rider that can't even go wake to wake should be riding finless? I was talking to Andrew Adkinson at the wake games about his new board and he said at home playing around he rides finless, in a comp he rides with fins. Why do you think he as a pro wakeboarder does that? I'm not saying everyone should, but it's like a cool trend to ride finless and I think it's stupid.

I ride my Absolute Platinum with only the molded side fins. I prefer the loose ride. A also ride a Marius without the center fin. It's not recommended for beginners but once you get the feeling of edging and can clear both wakes I say take the fins off, until then I believe its better to have the additional control and drive fins offer.

Ant I am not saying every board should be ridden finless, but some boards are designed that way. I believe in some cases (certain boards such as 2003 premier) you can progress faster without a fin because it will teach u proper edging technique. You will not rely on fin and learn how to edge properly.
Ashley rips it now but when she started riding with me she could not clear the wake and she rode finless. If you look at her edging now it is very technically correct. I wish I had the fundamentals that she has. So I would say you can progress without the fins. Just my thoughts, BCP Mike

Ant Bug - I was just curious because I recently picked up a 129 fish and have not had the time to experiment with it. I did not want to remove them just because I ride my Substance with out a center fin. Thanks.

I wakeskate finless and love it. I have a 05 dup Delta 140 with 2 1" fins per side and the next time I ride I'm going to take them off. Even with the little 1 inchers I feel too locked in. I love the feeling of riding the wakeskate finless and I'm trying to duplicate it with my wakeboard.

I too believe that beginners rely way too much on fins. They may not have as much success staying up in the beginning riding finless but they sure will learn their fundamentals earlier.

I didn't know riding without center fins was such a poser thing now-a-days. Fortunately I'm only a poser sometimes and I suck so the point is moot.

Fish = w/ fins
Substance = w/o center fin
TFD = w/ .7's
Roam = you figure that one out

Yeah the fins are huge. I didn't know I could buy smaller fins for CWB. I might try that. The only reason I was thinking of taking them off was because I have a hard time doing surface tricks because my fins always catch.

Sean ~ I have the same board as you, but mine is the 04 Absolute (same shape) and I ride it with the platinum fins. They are the .75's. My board came with 1.3 and I got the smaller ones. With either of these two fins you will be able to do surface tricks with no problem. If your board if fact has a 1.9 fin, that's a little big and I see why you are having a problem.

Absolute finless- I still don't know why I even rode with fins in the first place, I could have been having a lot more fun.

Depending on the board, I think fins only help the very beginners then they begin to hurt, IMO.

Recently changed out the center fins on my Double Up from 2.4 (I think) to 1.2 and loved the change. I didn't realize how much energy I was expending even just getting over the wake with the huge fins. But I actually just bought a Hyperlite Blur with 2 outside 1.1 fins and think I'll like it better. If the Blur works, I would definitely give no fins a try after awhile, something I would never attempt on my DU. P.S. I think I'm cool with or w/o fins, cuz I'm a girl who rides!!

I ride both my Obrien Valhalla and HL Parks with all fins on. Note, the Valhalla has about 10 fins all up if you include the molded in ones, that said, they are all small lil buggers at 0.5".
