The recall is for the HD750/1 MHD750/1 manufactured prior to December 2009. About 5900 amps are included in this recall.

".. amplifiers manufactured between 2008 and 2009 could contain a defect in their circuit board that could allow the board to overheat. In turn, this could pose a risk of smoke and/or fire to the occupants of the motor vehicle in which these amplifiers are installed. While there have only been a small percentage of units that have failed in this manner, we feel that the safety of our customers is paramount and intend to repair all of the units manufactured during this time period, free of charge." - JL Audio

The JL Audio HD750/1 has been our best performing tower speaker amplifier for a while now. It delivers well in excess of 750 watts at any practical impedance load and at any voltage supply. Plus, the fullrange Class D efficiency is so much higher (60 percent higher in many cases) that the voltage sag under hard play is way less than some other amplifiers which translates into more real world power versus test bench power. A very tough amplifier to beat!
In the previous years we have seen many manufacturers have a production or part issue that they buried. We knew they had a problem from our experiences but they conceeded nothing. In this situation we have yet to have a problem as the potential one that JL Audio described yet JL has released this voluntary recall on amplifiers that are mostly out-of-warranty. Now that is refreshing!

The only bummer seems to be that they will fix it and then send it back to you. You are without an amp for the duration. Hopefully they fix them quick!
