we have an 08 and nothing has gone wrong at all. i think there was some kind of recall on something but it was minor... the trucks are so nice inside. very comfortable truck

getting 10 mpg now

Fuel economy has been lower than previous models but 10 mpg seem's very low most are realizing 13-14 with the 3:73 LS rear end. Some of out customers that have driven greater than 10,000 miles are starting to see the more typical 16. The only recall I know about was on the earlier models with the flames coming out of the exhaust during particulate burn off but that was merely a computer re flash and the models built after about 6 months ago don't need that.

buy ittttttt. my dad got a 08 f-450 and its a great truck. i know its not the same truck but still on 08 and sick. sure they may get around 10 mpg's but if your droppin 50 grand on a nice truck who cares if it doesn't get the best gas milage. and it looks a hole lot better than the chevy and GMC

Ford FTW. I just sold an 07 Dodge 5.9L. Truck rode like a fence post and the interior was lacking in all departments. My neighbor has an 08 and I love the truck. I know it doesnt matter, but you can't hear it running while standing near the bed. Its very nice.

Dont go Dodge.

As a Ford owner currently, and debating a new truck, I would not buy this truck. Power? Yep. Good Looks? Yep. Mileage? Sucks. Head over to RV.net, those boys and most everyone I know that has one hate the mileage, including the TheDieselStop crowd. 10-13 is the average, hardly anyone is getting 16.

My current plan is to buy a Duramax or drive the current Diesel into the ground. Maybe Ford will have it worked out by that time.

kind of off topic a lil but what are all u people with the 6.0L motors in your F-250 getting for gas milage on the free way and on city streets. i just got over to Hayward, Ca from Fresno Ca. for a Mercurser training class and was getting 15.2 MPG's on the freeway doing around 70 and 75 the hole way. is that about what everyone else is getting.

depends on how I drive
I can get up to 20 if I just do highway
I use the superchips on economy mode
I get 15 when I pull the boat on the freeway

Agree with Cliff, alot depends on how you drive, wind, etc. With the profile of a barn, strong winds can knock your mileage down.

I can see 17-18 empty on the highway if I keep my foot out of it doing 70, then again it's really hard to keep my foot of it, especially going up hill, too fun passing people.

Loaded with 4k trailer and another 1k of people and gear, I get around 12-13 depending on how I drive. And again, it's really fun holding 65 mph going up the north side of the grapevine pulling a boat.

Cliff- with that superchip has it hurt your motor at all and how long have you had it in. also are you able to pull the chip out when you take the truck into the shop for service. with my truck i bought the 100K extended warranty and wouldn't want to put a chip in if i couldn't pull it out and have it void the warranty. if i did put a chip in i would only use it on the low levels to get better mpg. i had a buddy that put a chip in his f-250 and it totally shot his motor but he was also running it at one of the top modes trying to race and show people how cool we was by having a fast truck hahahahaha.

mine isn't a chip
I have been told not to install a chip....
http://www.xtremediesel.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=965
it's the tuner

sorry to mislead

I bought the truck in July with 23,000 miles on it....
pretty much used the tuner from the first week that I got the truck

it is easy to just reset things back to factory
.I've only had it serviced once since I got (oil change and mileage service) it.....Ford didn't say anything

I'm told that the way the tuner resets everything, you can't tell it was ever tuned

I laugh to myself at guys who have new trucks and put the tuner or chip sticker on window
.......or forget and leave the tuner or instructions in the truck when they take it to have it serviced

I asked the service guys if I would be gambling if I used a tuner.....they said it was ok as long as I didn't "bully dog" the thing up to ridiculous horsepower

Cliff good luck, it's not the dealer you have to worry about.

I am a dealer and havent seen one in my shop yet with problems besides one guy who was from out of state where pump colors are different and he put gas in it These have been a great seller so far and the only complaints I've gotten are fuel mileage.. My average customer is 12-14..

Brandon- if i was to put a tuner on my 05 f 250 to use it for getting better mpg would it hurt the truck at all. i wouldn't ever use it for racing around and going fast. also i bought the 100k mile warranty on it. would it void the warranty if i put one of the tuners on it that i could pull in and out as i pleased and would the dealer be able to tell when i pulled it out.

Yes, it can void the warranty. With the 05 problems, Ford has been very proactive about denying warranty. Don't take my word, go read some of the diesel boards, shocking stuff. However, if your pocket book does not need the warranty, the go for it.

I almost bought one, great looking trucks and tons of power! The only reason I got a new Silverado Duramax was because they couldn't find me an all black one with the options that I wanted. My Duramax is up to 16.2mpg with a highway/city mix and only gets about 14.5mpg with all city. My highway driving is all at 75~80mph though (posted speed limit is 75).

My mileage is all hand calculated, miles divided by gallons - the computer is all over the place with the mileage. One time it told me I had gotten 18mpg and when I filled it up I was at like 15.9mpg. I also check it every single tank. I have just over 2,000 miles on it now.

well i really don't want to void my extended warranty. its saved me about 1,500 bucks 3 times now after the original warranty was up.

I am not expert...but, I have heard that new new ford diesel with twin turbos can't be chipped or tuned... Something about how one turbo powers low end and other powers high end... I would be disappointed with 10ish MPG for sure..
We have a 08 Chevy with Duramax at work and I towed a 14' enclosed utility trailer to New Mexico and back.. got around 11mpg towing but we were running 75-80.. Engine in Chevy is very quiet.

The engine inside the cabin of the Ford is even quieter - I'm a Chevy guy but I was very impressed with the Ford. Their "quiet" steel that they use in the new trucks really helps.

FWIW, my buddy has a new Crew Cab Superduty and he is getting ~ 14mpg around town but he only drives it about 15 miles a day.

I have an '08 350 SuperDuty dually. Only replaced the radiators twice so far at 35,000 miles, all towing ski boats, sometimes 2 at a time. However, it is doing better than our other shop trucks.

'03 Durango (cracked block at 250k)
'03 Suburban (dead at 200k)
'05 F-350 (dead at 110k)
'06 F350 (going strong at 50k)

I heard from a reliable source that the new 08 fords had problems i believe with the small turbos going out. It was from a local diesel repair/performance shop. Anyone else hear about this problem?

I Own a 2002 F250 7.3 going on 150,000 and I am a ford Deisel fan but would not buy the O8' F250. Reviews are horrible and motor is new and unproven to reliability for a 50K truck in comparison to the 6.0 or 7.3L models. I get 16mpg with 150k+. I have been doing a lot of research in the deisel market and the Chev. Duramax and the Dodge are the top market right now, not to mention a lower MSRP. Chev. is averaging 20 mpg and dodge at 21 mpg. Fuel mileage is important both with fuel prices to hit an estimated 4$ per g by summer 08. Fuel mileage in an engine also lends to the engine efficiency in many other areas of the engine performance as well. Just some things to think about.

I bought my 08 250 in Aug and haven't been disappointed at all. It runs great, pulls my boat like nothing is back there, has plenty of room and is quiet. As far as gas mileage, mine became good fairly quickly and has since stabilized. It hasn't improved much since my last post. On average it has now settled in around 17 by hand calculation. I have seen it drop 4 or 5 mpg when pulling my boat, heavy winds and in traffic. It is still better than what I was getting with my 5.4 Expedition. I'd buy it again!

Larry head over to RV.net probably 20 or 30 08 owners would be willing to buy your truck with that kind of mileage.
