When we put my tower on we did all the necessary things to prevent gel coat cracks and had no problems when installing. In the instructions it said if your hull was to thin it would be a good idea to put some kind of reinforcement behind it. So we got some steal 1.5X5 inch 1/4 inch thick (I think) and put it underneath the metal plate under the hull. When tightening the bolts, we cracked the gel coat. At first it was only a couple of cracks, but now after I have been using the boat it has gotten worse.

What should I do about this? Does it need to get fixed? is there a threat of the mount being pulled through the hull? Is this something I can fix my self (I have seen the tap products video).
