I've had the lower strap come completely off on a fall. A friend of mine has a strap attached to the brace that loops around his ankle to keep from losing it if all straps fail.

Each season start off with a new velcro kit from CTI and you will be fine. Sometimes on hard falls it loosens a bit but thats about all. CTI makes a "water sock" that goes over the brace to help hold all the velcro, but you really don't need it if you replace the velcro once a year.
I have had my cti2 since 1995 and send it in each year for rebuild and new velcro....about $125.
