Anybody know what the prediction for Powell or mead is for this summer. With the feet of rain & snow we've had does the future look brighter?

Just wondering?

Thanks

When I looked last week it said Lake Powell was 35% full

I recently read how they have the Glen Canyon Dam flood gates wide open to facilitate the wildlife downstream. With all the moisture in Utah and Colorado, my guess is Powell is going to be a dream this summer.

Who is "we". Powell and the Colorado River are fed from Wyoming and the West slope of Colorado.

Snow pack means nothing now. If the next few 60+ degree days evaporate a bunch, then no, not a good year.

If the snow pack is above 100% at the end of March, then we'll ahve a better year.

Hope for a cool, wet spring in the Rockies!

Matt is right. Snowpack above Lake Powell now is at 140% above normal, but this does not mean anything until Spring. Last year snowpack was above normal and then we had a scorching week in March, which killed it. I second the hope for cool, wet Spring!

We are going to need about 5 years of 120% snow pack to start filling it up again. End of season count.

The dam has fulfilled it's purpose though. It was a deterrent against flooding and a storage device/relief device during drought. I think it's done a damn good job. :-)
