That thing is so awesome. If you get it you should have sweet 70's/80's parties on that thing. Fro's, Ho's, gold chains and gargoyle sunglasses.

Ummm yeah that thing looks in excellent condition I would jump all over that. I just love my 87 SunSport and that Rider looks like it has the same amount of freeboard, so you can load it down the same. Really a pretty boat. May we ask price? Hours? All original? Is primary hull color brown? Wow! And those long side-windows....crazy! The high bow rail... pimpin! Let me know if you want to see wake pics, but I'm sure everyone has seen mine. Good luck!!

If you want a project and worthwhileness after your efforts, here's my appraisal, in six parts. 1 - direct drive. that's good, it'll drive better than a v-drive: -- and engine work is so much more accessible. 2 - hull. i like the width across the helm and the height of the beam. you should be able to weight that thing down and get a kicking wake. 3 - top deck. it's open bow, that's good. but otherwise it appears cramped and hurting for storage space behind the wind shield. i'd wonder about what's behind that grill under the glove box, and see if it can't be made into a hatch for storage. i'd wonder about removing that passenger seat and make a 'wrap' seating arrangement where the passenger stares rearward. actually, that's my favorite seat. unlike my auto, where i always want to be driver, i'd rather be passenger in my boat than driver. there's something soothing about cruising a lake and watching it go by looking over a well-groomed wake. i bet that boat can be fitted to throw a pleasing wake at cruising speeds, not to mention a wake sport wake at wake sport speeds. 4 - it begs for a tower, and that's good. there are a lot of after market towers which would bless that boat. personally, i'd remove the handrails, but that's just me. but to get back to towers, i've seen a 2009 white-and-orange cc 230 without a cool tower, and then in contrast a basically black with a light-lime green swoosh pattern 2009 cc 230 with that new roswell tower and the Z- something bimini. the two were night and day (not in price, both 70,000 plus boats). nevertheless, one was plain and the other a statement. the tower was everything (or, so was hull color). a well-chosen tower and bimini can rock that thing. 5 - boarding platform. this boat has one, that's good. but what's great -- and i like the cc thinking along these lines -- is a really extended one, which gives two or three people support so that, say, several of you and your guests can horse around on it at the same time. 6 - clinker or not? that would be the deal breaker for me. does it/will it run good with only moderate fixing up. Zach Looks like a winner if it drives out OK make sure you check the floors and stringers for rot The older Supras are prone to this.

playpen and rear bench seat should take care of your ballast. if it's running good, no doubt it will be a great ride. been almost 3 years since those pics though. stick your camera in the bilge, fore and aft of the engine and take a look around with some pics.

Supras website says "1983- Introduction of the Supra Rider. First open bow inboard in the industry, features a playpen bow design." http://www.supraboats.com/history/ Another for sale in Akron http://www.vandeveremarine.com/ub65.html Haugy where are you? Same hull as SunSport on the Rider?

WakeMikey, here's a post that I started in November in which Haugy wrote about the Rider and other Supra models. http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=79333&highlight=&sid=0578dbb852d52 2ab86d008538933893f The post to read in regards to the Rider is from Nov 20, 2008 6:42 am, but there is a lot of other great info throughout the post. I really like the aft-facing seat on the doghouse of the Rider models. Not sure if any of the early Sunsports had that design or not. That one at Vandveremarine has been for sale since early last fall, if not earlier. They tried to sell it with $10K+ reserve on Ebay last fall and it was around $8500-$9000 when I called about it in November. Do any of you Supra Sunsport guys have an unweighted wake photo at 30-36 mph? I've been looking and can't find one.

Zach, I'd say scoop the it up. You're not going to find a boat that original again. Put a cool tower, possibly brown powder coat, on it along with a tower mount bimini and you'll have a great machine.

i hate to say this but I think that I disagree on the tower. That boat is a classic. I love it like it is and I think a tower would make it look bad.

Onlyinboards, guess you're right... it would kind of be like putting a tower on a late 70's Mastercraft Stars and Stripes. That being said, something like a '99 Launch tower or one that followed the fore and aft windshield lines would be interesting.

defin. add a tower to that rig... if you get it. powder coat it to match the dark brown and it would look real classy. keep it classy.

well I am going to remove the strips on the side of the boat. I have a friend that lay out a nice design in that baby blue color and then slap on a matching baby blue tower.

454 won't be too bad, unless you like to joyride around at 40mph. Its torque monster, a very good thing when you start running weight. What prop? you pry won't need any less pitch than 16* or so with that engine. You can upgrade a few things that will help. I'd start with the ignition system.

i don't think the 454 will get you too bad if you're prop'd right. try to haul ass or load up more than usual and it could get thirsty. you shouldn't ever have to worry about getting on plane

The 454 weighs more than a 351, I am not sure, but that works out for you since you are going to be using the boat for wakeboarding. It will be great having the torque coming out of the hole with a weighted boat. As mentioned above, prop it right and it will help at the pump. I'll echo Nacho on the ignition system. If it still has a points style ignition, go ahead and spend the money and upgrade to an electronic ignition. I had an older boat with points and I had less issues after changing to an electronic ignition

The 454 will definately need repropped. I have a friend with a Saltaire with a 454, and it wouldnt get on plane with 1500 pounds ballast. But the saltaire is a BIG boat too

Zach, that sucks. You never know though, family could buy it and decide it's not what they want once they get it in the water and they open up 4 barrels on the 454! Seriously, years ago when my parents bought their Trojan it was "sold", but the deal fell through with the other buyer, so they bought it. Keep you're fingers crossed. WakeMikey, great older boat thread. Thanks.
