I used to ride an 04 obrien watkins player 143. This board has a three stage rocker of 2.8". I changed to a 05 Liquid Force sublatnce 138. Cnat rember the rocker on the Substance, I know it's a three stage, and I think it is more aggresive. Is it the length change or the rocker that makes this Substance feel "slow"? It just feals like it has a ton of drag. Removed the fins, and it is better, but squirley, this will be nice once I get more time on this board. Used to be a big fat azz, thats why I used to ride the 143. No I am a scroney azz, and thought the 138 would suffice. Im about 6', and now I way(dont laugh) 155lbs. Am I too big for the 138, too much weight to surface area? thanks everyone. PS. I want to ride soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. I hate colorado.

you are not too big (heavy) at all -- i am 5'10" -185 and ride the 138 w/o a problem -- i rode a 136 belmont and premier forever ...

It is the agresive three stage that gives it it's straigh up pop, right?

Only if you're driving off the tail will you get that straight up pop with an aggresive three-stage board.

I haven't really looked too closely at the Players, but I think the reason the Substance feels slow is simply because it's a smaller board and rides deeper.

However, I don't think you weigh too much for the 138, but you have to consider your height. Being six foot tall, you'll want the widest stance possible on that 138 and if the bigger board felt better I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm 6' 165 and liked the 142 a lot better. I had the 138 and thought it landed hard. Try the bigger board if you want. I also think that board shape is inherently slower, too. Lately a lot of board have gone to huge rocker and IMO it makes them ride kinda sluggish. This year I went back to the CWB Pure ('03 Absolute shape) and was amazed by how fast it felt. Just standing behind the boat no longer had any drag. For better or worse I'm not sure.....

Ha - go back to the Player - it is obviously well designed!
