Potentially buying this boat, but need to provide some sort of "cost effective" canvas solution for the rails (upper and lower) to provide coverage due to safety concerns with little kids. any recommendations?

cost effective.....I would go with either addtiional vertical rails or horizontial type rails.

If you weren't to concerned about looks, you can buy rolls of pontoon boat fencing fairly cheap.

If you haven't considered this...anything you add to the rails (cloth type fencing) is gonna catch quite a bit of wind and make it a bit more difficult to dock.

If it was mine, I'd look into putting up some clear fencing. You get the protection of a fence but it's see thru.

Thanks. We won't be leaving the slip too often, so I'm not overly concerned on docking difficulties (this is more home base to launch the ski boat). I called a place that sold sunbrella @ $26/yard, which is just too much.

I did see a pic somewhere of a boat that had a mesh-like cover on the rails. Worst case i figure that we find a material like that and do the sewing ourselves. have to figure out how to do snaps for the areas of entry, but i wouldn't think it would be too crazy of a project.

this is kinda the general idea, though all the way around. Kinda like the mesh material idea as opposed to this fabric, as I think would be cheaper:

Even better, this is exactly what we'd be looking for:
