My amps will get real hot during the day if I am tied up on the lake. I usually soak a shirt with water and rub the amps to keep them from over heating. I wanted to see if anyone had another idea. tks

"I usually soak a shirt with water"

water + amp =/ good.

I wouldn't do that. Maybe relocate to a more ventilated area?

add fans that blow over the heatsinks.

depending on your boat you probably notice a black tube that is vented from your bow to move air into the engine compartment when you are moving. my last two boats i cut that in half and inserted an inline vent into the compartment. not sure how well it really works, but it will provide some venilation without having fans or the buzzing of fans through your amps...

I've had that problem for a while now until last week. I installed 2 small electric fans (computer fans) right in front of the amps. Ran the wires to an already installed switch on the dash. Turn them on when I turn on the stereo. Went out for the weekend, nothing shut down at all! It was about 98-100 degrees all weekend and we ran it ALL day chillin in the lake and boardin.
Best $15 I've ever spent!

We put a new amp in my buddy's boat a few weeks ago and the first warm day we had it out it started clipping after about an hour. It got so hot that it melted one of the RCA plugs. Were putting in fans this weekend.
