My dad an I have been slaving away at making our private backyard lake twice it's size this whole summer (about 25 acres to be not exact). Well it's about done and time to let the rain do it's part this winter.
But along with anxiously awaiting for the lake to refill, as long as the economy doesn't totally take a dump, a boat seems to be in the budget. What the budget probably will be is 40k for a used boat. The only thing that I have rode around here are mastercrafts. What I ride on most is a heavily weighted x-15 and I love it. I also ride on a x-2 now and again. I've only seen a moomba lsv around here once or twice. People for the most part in my area ride MC.
However, after a little research I love the wake shape of the early 2000 210 SAN and it just looks like a very well put together boat. I am considering those and maybe an early 2000 mastercraft x series. However feel free to through any suggestions my way. I'm interesting in the supra 22ssv as well because from what I have seen the wake that they throw is massive and they seem to be economically priced. And can Moomba compare to the above mentioned at all? It seems as if I can almost own a brand new one for 40k. Is it worth looking into? Like I said I'm very boat experience limited, not a whole lot of variety out here.

I'll also put up a picture of the current lake, and what we have also cut out. The green is what has already been cut out and filled and what I'm using this year. And the blue is what is for next year. Tell me what you think. Also how deep do I need to feel completely safe about having a moderately weighed boat in. There are definately some low spots in the existing lake that need to be fixed, but I need to know to what extent.
I appreciate all of your help.

Are you going to be using it most of the time on your private lake? If you are then get something smaller, that takes less ballast and is more fuel efficient. I would say to look at the X2/X1(205V hull) and the nautique 210 hull previous to 2007. You should be able to find a 2004-2006 of either of these around 40k. But all the boats you listed are worth looking at and test driving. Moomba isn't a terrible way to go but personally I like the plushness and quality of components in the more luxuries boats. To add to your list I would look at the 2005-2008 Malibu Vride and if you look hard enough the 2005-current Malibu VLX.

Yes, It will be used on the private lake (mmm, butter) for the most part. But we also have a large lake out here that I can take it on for surfing and long runs and what not.

nice lake, you have just become one of my heros.

I know this is offtopic....but what kind of work is involved in digging a private lake?

And to give you a bit of advice, most people say 10ft is the shallowest you would want the water to be to get the right wake.

Well the part you see being filled in is all years and years of on and off sand mining my father has done out of our property. I guess just some of the benefits of owning an excavation company. We have spent probably 50 hours or so on all of the dams and moving the dirt and sand around this summer i'd say. The payoff is going to be more than worth it though.
My dad was an ex-barefoot, slamon skier back in his day, so when I took up wakeboarding he has been more than supportive. He actually boards with me all of the time. He even got up his first try haha. He is just as, if not more excited than me for next spring.

Oh and about the depth. I'm not worried about the 10 ft mark for the best wake because the low spots are around the turn arounds. The middle will all be 12 ft or below. Im just looking for the min depth so I dont have to worry about buying a new prop because I smashed it off the lake bottom.

I'm thinking 5-6ft is what's probably needed. Let me know.

5 feet is plently.

id say 5 ft also. so i would go with the 210 just because its a small boat with an amazing wake, or even the x1... your call

with a $40k budget, you have many great options. I agree with the rest about going with a 21-ish boat.

this is the best time for you to go get pulls behind these boats. If you love the 210 wake, you can get a relatively new and low hour 210 for 40. also look at supras, their wakes are similar, more so than the malibus... even though i love the vlx. just preference, but go ride behind them all.

good luck and have fun this spring. should be a good year for you and your dad.

My 2 cents correct craft super air pre 06 210 sick wake take the factory rear tanks out and replace them with 750 sacks and put a 750 in the bow and the wake is sick. As for depth we ride in a lagoon and it varys from 6-7 to 9-11ft. min depth needed when weighted is 5 ft. Nice man! We roll a 05 210 with the exact setup and its sick 21 @ 85 feet tranny to tranny all day.. Have 636 hours as of this mornings session!! Service it myself change all the fluids every 50 hours and have gone through 2 fuel pumps and 2 sets of plugs and a hell of a lot of gas!!!!! Jealous of your own lake that would be nice!!

I'd love to ride all of these boats, but like I said I'm limited in variety out here. So i'm kind of just going on your input here. Although now i'm really starting to lean towards the SAN.

You should demo some different boats. I have an 06' Moomba Mobius LSV. I 1700lbs of ballast and the wake is nice. I can tell you bang for the buck on a Moomba can't be beat. I have had no problems with mine. For the price you will get a much newer boat with less hours. I picked mine up last year for 35k loaded w/ only 100hrs on it. Everyone on here has loyalty to the brand they ride. I will admit I am a little biased also. But last year at this time I looked all over at different boats and I can tell you from my experience you will not be disappointed in the Moombas...My$.02.

When I was in college we had a Church friend that built a lake on his farm. He was sponsored by MC so had a free boat every year was into trick and barefoot. Ron Scarpa would come up in the summer and Harry would hang at Cypress in the winter. It was sweet being the only boat on the lake. Very similar set up. No rollers and no maniacs on pwc! You think you have friends now just wait hahah lucky crew!!!!

Hope everyone enjoys. I'm so excited I'd give anything to just skip winter and move right on to spring.

Nick,

I met this guy in Beaver, PA that is trying to sell his 2000 SAN 210 with 84 hours on it. He was from Texas, and his girlfriend was a waterskier. 6 months after buying the boat, he had to move to Pittsburgh for work. He only uses the boat once or twice a year now.

It might be worth your time to look at it, since it is only 50 miles from you, is under your budget and it would fit your lake perfect.

I took some pictures of the boat when I was on it. I do not have them on this computer, but I can email them to you when I get home.

Can I come ride? You have a sick setup.

Next time we're in the area, I'll bring an X Star. I know the area where you're at. What happened to Ron's? They used to be a Nautique dealer.

Nice place..... when's the "break in the new lake" party?

Where did you find the picture at? I can't find any that current anywhere. Anyways, I'd be really interested in seeing the SAN 210. And anyone interested in riding next year we will can arrange something for sure. Maybe some of you can even help me with a slider?
And I don't know of any nautique dealer around here, but the marina at tri lakes sells alot of x series. They are located in Rootstown.

I sent you an email with a link to "Microsoft live maps."

Both Nautique Dealers went out of business (Akron and Pittsburgh). There is a good Malibu Dealer in Conneaut Lake, PA. http://www.navcompany.com/

I also know a guy right near you with a 07 SAN 210 @ $51k and a 08 SAN 210 @ 58k. A little out of your price range, but they are less than a 1/2 hour from where you live.

I can also help you build sliders. Since you have your own lake, it will be relatively easy.

Nick

You and your dad should consider hosting a NWL USA Wakeboard Grassroots tournament in 09. Drop me an email and I will get you all the info on forming your own club and we can help you out with the insurance thing too.

About your Moomba LSV Question. Dont underestimate this boat, If I did not run Supra, I would have no problem with pulling a top tournament with the LSV. It will handle very heavy weight well and is one of the best driving boats out there for the kind of lake you just built. The wakeplate lets you shape it to your sweet spot. It can change from rampy to peaky. Let me know if you need a test drive

I'd be happy to host a tournament. Of course it will be a mutual decision between my father and I, But as long as everything is well organized and insured I don't see why would be a problem. Stay in touch. Also let me know about the test drive on the moomba.

Original x-star currently for sale at Tri lakes:

Though if you have the budget to do better, why not. You should talk w/ the owner of Water's Edge about hosting a nice little grassroots tournament.

I was thinking of doing something like that next year. Lake Milton does get real choppy in the summer time, so maybe something could be held here instead. And plus it would probably be easier to spectate.

Nick,Rockpoint marina on Lake Roaming Shores is a Nautique dealer now they are near Ashtabula.I bought my Supreme there. They took over Nautiques from Van Devere in Akron. They also have a few 2008 Supremes left over at dealer pricing.I love mine You should check them out.About the depth-He doesn't need to worry about it cause he rips it off a jet ski wake,so with a boat wake he will be ok in any depth deep enough to keep from trashing his prop.

If you don't get a boat by beginning of next season as soon as that water hits 45-50 I will be out there with my 21 footer anytime you want.I'm going to try to go for the last time this Friday on Erie here in Cleveland. You're welcome to join me if you like,I have suits to wear and the water is still 62 at the surface.

Jay T. I'm booked for this Friday, But Sunday I'm good or anytime next week, so if you happen to go out anytime between then let me know. I'd love to check out the Supreme. I've been riding all last week and I've got a suit, the cold water doesn't bother me that bad.

Jay, have fun, I was out at West branch tonight for last ride this season. Lake was empty, not even fishermen. The only thing that got me was cool wind on wet face and hands.

Nick... I do not know you, but I absolutely hate you. Is that a golf course i spotted in the background too? dude!

Ewing is right on. If your going to run a lot of ballast, you need to really consider a big motor to get up to speed quick and not waste water.
