Since Jeremy is hard at it why not? Finally took my 5D out in the boat with the 24-105 (which is a little short on the FF for wakeboard shooting from the boat. The shot of Chris riding is actually about a 6mp crop.
Hey Scott - I'm very happy with it and I never seem to take it off the 5D. It balances well and I feel it's IQ is every bit as good as the 24-70 which I owned a while back as well. Of course it's a stop slower but since I mainly use it outdoors and shoot a lot of landscape stuff with it I'm usually stopped down anyways.
rich- cool. im thinking about whether i want that 24-105 or the 24-70 for myself. ive been using my mom's 24-70 thus far, but plan on building up my own collection since i'll be entering the working world very shortly.
But digressing back to the 24-105. The following shot is what I love about the 5D / 24-105 combo. This lens just sings at f8 on that big fat sensor in the 5D!
Glad you like that 5d Rich. Is there anything you miss from the 20D?
The double handed controlling on my 1d2 has been tough to learn, and I miss the high iso capability of the 20D also, but hey the 1d2's no slouch at high iso just not as good as the ol' 20D IMHO. Other than that, I am really starting to like this machine gun.
The high ISO on the 1D2 should be as good or better then the 20D (or so is the conventional wisdom of the masses). The 1D2 has a lot more latitude with it's jpeg settings so if you're seeing a difference there that might be why.
The VF alone on the 5D makes it worth it to me. Although the 24-105 on a 20D would have been better shooting from the boat due to the crop factor.
