Common sense can take you a long way in life.
As you get older you see the bigger picture. It eventually will happen to all. I constantly find myself complaining about things that I use to do. Makes me smile and say to myself..."I use to be that A--!"

trust me i spank my kids.. only when they deserve a but whippin.. they are both girls too. lol but sometime kids need a good but whippin'

and i totally understand what your saying but my point was that if they have the right to do those things so do i. at least im not gonna kill anybody with a speed boat or get a little kid stuck by a needle that i left behind. or ever ding someones gel coat. at worst im gonna expand some peoples vocabulary and maybe just make some people like 2pac a little more. lol

"if they have the right to do those things so do i."

WHAT GIVES ANYONE THE RIGHT!
Why should any 1 person be able to sh*t on everyone around them. THEY SHOULDN'T!!! If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem.

If you don't see that yet you won't for some time... I'm bowing out of this one.

Kyle and William, and now see why some people do not like wakeboarders. When I get a dirty look from somebody because of the kind of boat I have, I know I can thank you two, and those with attitudes like yours.

Boy, I've gotten old; it used to be that the music could not get too loud. I have recently collected data similar to OnlyInboards that is robust enough to be valid all situations: car, club, boat and even home. Please note, these data only apply to me - your own personal results may vary.

I am with Craig. Alot of people who spend alot of money on wakeboard boats, tend to be pricks. At least thats the way it is on my home lake. People get these boats for the show, not because they can actually ride. Most "wakeboarders" in my area will go spend $30-90K on a wake boat, just to go tie up at the sand bar, blast their music and get wasted.

I have an 08 VLX and I'm out riding with my music up on occasion, but do turn it down around marinas, fisherman, camp areas or where I launch the boat. Its a matter of respect and alot of people don't have that anymore, no matter who they are or what they do.

Free speech baby. I can see showing up to a favorite wakeboard spot and blasting Barry Manilow for a few hours. Or parking the boomed-out car, windows down in front of Kyle's house from 10AM - 11PM, playing cranked Manilow. Wonder how that would go down?? Then, flip him off when you get the look, or the comment to turn the crap down. Think he might invoke the police or seek some kind of ordinance to get the in-your-face Manilow off?

This thread is rediculous on so many levels. Use common sense. There's nothing wrong with drinking in a boat, or blasting music with vulgar words, theres nothing wrong with rap music. Saying "F Fishermen" is immature. And just because you haven't been shown respect, that doesnt mean you should show disrespect to everyone else.

Drinking and driving a boat is wrong. Blasting music with or without vulgar near others is disrespectful.
Old     (wake77)      Join Date: Jan 2009       04-07-2009, 2:20 PM Reply
That's what it's all about. Have respect for everyone on the lake because they are out there to have a good time like everyone else.

Quick story (pertaining to the guy that said F fishermen)......Fishermen are a$$es to riders because some rider was once an a$$ to them. If I cruise up on a spot and I see some guys fishing, I give them plenty of space or I ride somewhere else if possible. If I'm riding the spot first and some bass boat decides he wants to fish in the middle of my run, that's fine, but he'll have to deal with the wake from my boat. I got a few buddies that fish (I even fish with them time to time) and they generally don't have a problem with wakeboarders.

Have fun, but don't act like the punk that thinks he owns the lake.

Actually, you two and Kyle don't believe that at all. You say that in this situation because you happen to be the ones that are infringing on other people's rights and that doesn't effect you at all. It's easy for you to say "who cares" since you are not injured. However, if somebody parked their car in front of your house and cranked the stereo at midnight and just left it there, you would either call the cops or take some sort of other action to get that music stopped. You would not just "cover your ears."

Make all the arguments you want, but we're all on the same side of this issue. It's just that some are blind to their own lack of respect for others.

My house is not a public place like a lake is, so you argument using that point is useless.
Old     (mbsteez)      Join Date: May 2005       04-07-2009, 5:24 PM Reply
Your house may not be a public place, but the street where the car would be parked is.

I don't understand why some people think they have a right to blast offensive language at everyone. Are you smokers who think you have a right to give other people cancer with your second-hand smoke? Do you think electronics stores should play porn on the tv's in their window displays? Those tv's aren't in a public place right, they're in a privately owned display case...

How about you "dont be that guy" who complains about some kids having fun. If your kids watch TV, listen to music, or go to school, then they are going to hear these words sooner or later. I bet that when your kids saw this boat they thought it was cool anyway. I grew up listening to some of the most gangster rap out there. That doesnt mean I follow what those songs say or portray. There are going to be millions of things that you dont like, just let it go. I dont see the difference between this boat and a car driving on the street with the system bumping. If the driver is willing to take the risk of getting a ticket for playing the music too loud, so be it. I dont think it is necessarily your age that makes you old, its your mind set, and a bunch of guys on here are just plain OLD.

Steve mckim...."I don't understand why some people think they have a right to blast offensive language at everyone"

We are blasting it off for us and our friends to hear and ride to .... You chose to take in the music and what it says... I never said listen to it im just playing it loud enough so buddy 75 ft back can rock out... That being said if the 70's music came on and we where blasting it off and all it talks about is drugs and hippies would that be better?... Probably because all you older guys like that music because thats what you grew up listening to... We grew up listening to Rap... Deal with it

being a father of a 5 year old & 3 year old, i can relate. several years ago i may have had the same opinion as some of the younger guys on here that don't understand what the problem is with blasting vulgar music around children. however, since i have been blessed with 2 young boys, i understand exactly where craig is coming from.

one day, if u are lucky enough to be parents, you will understand where the "old guys" are coming from. i like all music. profanity in music doesnt bother me. profanity, in general, doesnt bother me. i use it often. profanity in front of my kids does bother me. i want them to stay innocent as long as possible.

i hope u guys are just trying to stir the pot here on ww because ur just bored out of your minds.

What if every old person played their 50's Do-wop, awful old country music, and whatever else old people listen too super loud at the lake from their pontoons.... You would go nuts. Same thing.

Honestly if people like you guys keep it up and are always just being jerks on the lake, TOWER SPEAKERS WILL GET BANNED!

Smoking got banned in a lot of place, you know why.... people who didn't smoke got sick of it... and most people on the lake DO NOT have tower speakers, they'll get mad, they'll call someone, next thing you know absolutely no one will have tower speakers because a few jerks ruined it for everyone. You can listen to your music at 75 ft.... but if it is a sunday afternoon and there are others out, with little kids maybe find a new song that doesn't warning on it.... is it that hard to not be a jerk?

There has to have been at least one point in your life when someone was doing something that just drove you nuts (IN A PUBLIC PLACE!!!) blew smoke in your face, people talking way to loud on their phone, someone driving like a total tard, stinky kid in highschool sitting next to you, or some guy who stand to close to you in line... all these people aren't doing anything "Wrong" but lord knows you want to punch them in the face soooooo badly.

you are that guy, people hate you.

I live for myself believe me... but blastin Soulja Boy loud for all to hear doesn't make you cool.

What other people think and view as okay/not okay makes laws.
If I think it is okay to kill you mother and eat her body, does that mean it is okay?
NO THEN I AM INSANE!

Rules and laws are made from what the general population views as acceptable.

Just because what you are doing is "cool indie kid" behavior than you are just conforming to that sort of type thing..... there is nothing you can do in this day and age to be original. It has all been done before, by someone, at sometime.

Get real, just because you are being a nice guy doesn't mean you're a sell-out tool poser....it means you're not a dick.

Dave "I never said listen to it im just playing it loud enough so buddy 75 ft back can rock out..." which would mean that people across the water and kids on the beach can hear it too.

I'm 24. Rap got huge again when I was in high school, thanks to Dr. Dre and The Chronic 2001 or whatever it was called. I really don't care for it at all. Most of it has no substance (most, not all). Either way, music genre isn't the issue here. Its the fact that no matter what you're playing, not everyone will want to hear it.

Dave, do you ever give any consideration to anyone but yourself?

""People hate you" who gives a flying F*ck what people think about you.... If you live your whole life that you are not going to be who you really are you are going to let people dress you and make you into SOME FAKE person... TRY ANd LIVE FOR YOUR SELF"
So what you're saying is that you are an inconsiderate a**hole and are proud of that? I agree with the live for yourself statement but I only apply that to aspects of my life that affect myself like clothes, music, hobbies, etc. I don't care if someone doesn't like my sandals and boardshorts, the Foo Fighters, or thinks I'm a nerd because I like to read for fun. I sure do care if someone thinks I'm an a**hole, and I especially care if that creates a stereotype in somebody's mind about other people like me.

I Can say I see both side's of This. I am that guy with the loud music (not the actual MB guy). I have my NVS 1010's driven by my zapco 1000 watt amp. I listen to everything Rap, rock, altenative, classic rock, heavy metal, & a couple of country song's. I usually fire the system up at the dock to make sure everything is working fine. I try to turn it down if familys are around. I did play move b@*ch get out of the way one time at the dock when i was trying to leave and some guy had the whole ramp taken up for 30 min trying to clean his boat. Flame me if you want to but its music and if people have respect thats fine if they dont there is nothing any one of us can do about it. Just my opinion.

Play your music, think your cool...then grow up, have a kid or two and realize what is important in the world.

You soon will realize why us old guys think you suck. Trust me, if you are 30 and still "keeping it real" you are a tool.

I give a damn what you are listen to. But when your music is exposed to my kid, game is on. I am gonna stand up and tell you to grow up. your right to listen to your music at 75 ft while boarding ends when my 4 year old has to listen to blasten a cap in someone or bitches and sluts.

Trust me, you some day will realize why most of us care.

To add, for every guy that has tower speakers to listen to his music while boarding, there are 5 who wanna try to show off.

If you have to listen to your music while boarding, are you really enjoying the actual boarding. I've been sjiing and boarding since the 70's, and have never needed shiz to have a good time.

I rock 3K watts RMS in the boat, and frankly can care less about the tower. The guy that rocks tower, is the same guy running $2K in EBAY crap in his 93 civic.

I have different lists for my day on the lake. When I am riding and want to get pumped I will listen to something heavier/loud (not vulgar talking about b's and pimps and all that nonsense) when I am done and just want to chill I have a different list. I admit that I used to blast the music from the moment the boat touched the water. I have kids now and am way more conscious of what they are exposed to.
To give you an example my 19mo old boy saw Kung Fu Panda for the first time. I am watching it with him and after a fight scene I get a Karate chop to the nose. It's hard enough being a parent I don't want to have to explain the Birds and the Bees to my 3 yr old daughter.

Dave, you can't compare listening to music on the lake to parking a car in front of a house at midnight blasting music and saying "just cover your ears". Are you telling me when you did the global warning shoot in Mexico, the guys weren't listening to music while they were riding? He was on a big public lake that I'm sure is rarely empty on the weekends. How loud could the music truly have been anyhow? There are two boats on my lake which is a small private lake (about 6 miles around) and they both listen to "profane" rap while they are riding. The pass that we all ride goes right by my house and the only way to make out the exact words they are saying is if you listen REALLY closely. You can hear the beat and the sound pretty well but not the lyrics, and that boat couldn't have been any closer to them as these guys are to me. If you are on a public lake, it is no different then walking around the mall with your kids where you will hear tons of people cursing and using profane language. PG-13 movies can use any word now, and there is cursing on the standard television stations. Let's not even get into how kids talk in SCHOOL at very young ages and then God forbid his kids have gone on the internet.

Sweet! Thanks to Kyle's advice I can now stop worrying about what my kids are exposed to. That's a huge burden off my shoulders!! One thousand thank yous!

Kyle, please don't insult the riders in Global Warning by comparing their level of respect for others to your rationalization of everything you decide to do that is disrespectful of others. They have way more class than that and would not knowingly step on other people's liberties just because they can come up with a flimsy excuse for why they consider it ok! Soooooo weak!!

I do have the power, but I rarely mess with words. Only in a situation where I can easily remove profanity or something like that and not change the meaning of the post. I never change the meaning of what someone says. If it violates a rule, it usually just gets deleted completely.

Kyle's attitude strikes me as "If its out there, its ok for kids." No parenting necessary anymore folks! Popular culture dictates what children should be exposed to, didn't everyone else know that?

The freedom Kyle has given me is so liberating! I just dropped a couple f-bombs in front of my kids while I smoked a fat one. They're going to see all that anyway!!

It baffles my mind that people take kids to party coves. I was tied up at one years ago, and the people two boats down had kids with them. The boat that tied up to us had a couple skanks start going down on each other. Needless to say, I watched for a minute, then left.

William, you and the two other people on this post that have to blast their systems so everyone thinks you're cool are right.

The rest of us are wrong.

Next time I'm out, I'll turn my radio all of the way up while playing whatever I want, and then maybe I will be as cool as you.

Dude, what did I say? I said I want to be as cool as you. What's false in my post?

excatly, there is nothing false in my post.

And at least post legibly if you are going to accuse someone of not being able to read.

It just means your selfish. You could care less about how your actions affect others. That is what you are saying over and over again. Not caring about how your actions affect others=disrespect.

My wife and her friend were getting ready to board the boat and put a beat down on the girls for doing what they were doing in front of kids. Granted, its the parents fault for bringing them there, but it comes back down to the respect aspect. The kids had zero say in where they ended up. So it was best to just leave.

William, for someone who doesn't give a sh*t about what others think, you seem to be defending yourself an awful lot. The talk and the walk just don't add up.
BTW, I wasn't directing the eating young comment at you, but if you feel that way about it, so be it.

It would benefit the wakeboarding community if we all just asked ourselves these quesions before we make any decision;

Am I going to infringe on anyone else's rights?
Am I going to offend any other person?
Is there the slightest chance anyone could get injured?
Is there any possibility I am going to cause a freak accident?
If I posted what I am doing right now on Wake World would I get my ass reamed over the internet for several days?
