I have been wake boarding behind an I/o on the ski hook for about 11 years on the same Liquid Force search 143. I've been through a couple pairs of bindings and now I have a set of $99 obriens and I like them. I'm going to have a new (to me) boat for next season and I will finally have a pylon/tower to ride from! I don't have much $$ to spend but I want a newer board to progress on. I'm about 190lbs and can do w2w and 180's. I like the idea of a quad fin because it seems better for surface tricks. Too many used boards on eBay and I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Help this old guy out!

Depends on ur riding style. I just switched from a ronix parks which is more of a free ride loose board, I liked it a lot by the way, now I'm riding a marek 2014 nova core, I like it but still getting used to it. It bites hard and can jack u up on landings but it edges like crazy and bites down.... I'm getting used to it and figuring out, just way different but I like it alot

I'm not sure I have a riding style. Other than I don't do any park/rail stuff. I can't believe how many different boards there are! Can someone post up a quick list of the "good" brands or ones to stay away from? I like LF but I'm not stuck on them.

The most popular brands right now are

Liquid Force
Ronix
Slingshot
Hyperlite

If I were you, I would look for a board with a 3-stage rocker. Will give you nice hard pop off the wake to progress your riding. In the end though, that's very general advice. You should try to demo or borrow some boards from friends to figure out what you like and don't like.
