I know I am opening a can of worms... but what are some of the best surf specific boat AND why? (not just I have a blank and the wake is killer....what makes it killer, what would you change about it?). Also, how do you weight the boat you like?
We are thinking of buying a new boat in the near future, and have decided that we would like a great boat for surfing. We do wakeboard, but am to the stage that I really don't care how far I progress boarding. My wife and I both LOVE surfing, and would like to get a surf specifec boat.

Will, I see you're in Grand Rapids. Would you consider coming down to Ohio for some wakesurfing events? I'm planning a wakesurfing competition for July 7th (wakeboarding on the 8th) and a less formal gathering on July 28th in Columbus. I'm also working with the NWL, planning to hold the NWL national wakesurf competition in Dayton on August 18th and 19th. If you don't pull the trigger before then you would have an opportunity to surf behind other boats to see what you like. On top of the competition boats the American Wakesurf Association is going to hook these events up with prize and demo wakesurf boards so you could try some of them out too.

I would be interested in coming down for those events. That sounds like a great event and I would love to watch some good surfing and try some new boards out.

And some still from the event here:

I met a couple of pretty Michigan good wakesurfers at the event, Jim Gillam and Don Carrier. Jim has several skim boards and made several of his own boards. If you want to surf with some local surfers you should hook up with these guys. Hope to see you this summer.
