I haven't really noticed any difference from brand new to broken in. I played them low for about 15 hours before I cranked them for a long time. Next to FAE, they've been my favorite upgrade to the boat in seven years.

I was told if I just cranked on them I would burn the coil up

yea its possible, but i think that only happens with bad tunes. seriously, i have 4 rev 10s plus a 410 on my tower and i leave mine cranked 8 to 10 hours a day every weekend in the summer and yet to have problems. im running pretty big amps on them to, 750/1 jl hd per pair of rev 10s and the same amp again on a single 410.

Jake,
Speakers must dissipate at least 95 percent of the energy they recieve as heat. Heat kills. There is no difference in the way a brand new and well used speaker handles the heat.
More heat is created when the speaker or amplifier or both are over-driven. Speakers compress with too much power. Amplifiers clip when driven too hard. It's an overly simply analogy but think of an electric drill. How much hotter does the electric drill motor get when you apply enough pressure to the chuck to slow it down over a long period? Speakers can most effectively get rid of the heat when they are in transition.
Break-in is just a matter of time at a normal level of play. Do nothing out of the ordinary.
The only difference will be from the added compliance of the mechanical spider which serves to damp the midbass cone. Depending on your crossover selection you might hear a small difference in the midbass extension.

Again, play them from moment one the same way you will normally use them.
And be sure to change out the ferrofluid and filter after 15 hours of play.

Jake, I think you missed the point that David was making. That guy really knows his stuff, so I'll give you the less scientific version: There is no break in period. Don't need to do it. Break in periods are for audiophiles and studio engineers. They just do it because of changing tonal qualities of the speaker.

All I can say about the Rev-10's, is that Garth Brooks, David Allen Coe and Jamie Johnson never sounded better
