ipod music format?

What format/bitrate are people using when using ipods? because the systems are getting so good you can really notice the difference between cd's and ipods if not encoded right

mp3 with LAME codec on VBR *extreme*

probably the best MP3 codec out there.

Matt, how do you find these formats? Can I get them from ITUNES.

it depends on what program you are using to rip and encode your music.

I use EAC with LAME for all my ripping, or when I download I usually get the LAME encoded rips (usually mentions it in the file info).
