does this vest give any float??

No, not really.

A bit. The Gooru I have is like a sleeveless shorty. The top is shaped and molded like a vest so I use it at OWC anytime it's chilly out but not cold enough to wear a sleeved shorty which requires a vest. It's definitely more flotation than no vest.

mine floats me with my chin above water with air in my lungs. (without a board strapped to my feet)
im pretty skinny and dont have much body fat so i am not very boyant myself.

you'll sink pretty fast if you breath out w/ it on, I'd check out the vapor or out law for non-cga vest w/ more float to it
